But does it ultimately matter? No.
Beyond Trayvon Martin and Philando Castile, I cannot easily think of one of these incidents where the alleged suspect did not have a criminal history. And of those, at least half either had an outstanding warrant or were violating a restraining order. And the majority, if not all, resisted arrest.
But these facts hold no currency with the mob, as they view crime and punishment as inherently racist, and thus any enforcement of law to be racist. They don't care about the store owner that Michael Brown assaulted and stole from, and who later had his store trashed and looted in retribution. They don't care about the (possibly) pregnant woman that George Floyd trained a gun on during a home invasion. Those people do not matter to the mob.
But beyond the mob, the harsh reality is that - despite having an arrest warrant and resisting arrest - Daunte Wright was unlawfully killed. While you can make a case for reasonable doubt in the George Floyd case, this one is pretty much open-and-shut. It doesn't matter what Officer Potter meant to do, only what she did. Same as any gun owner, you are responsible for where your bullets go. It was a terrible, tragic error and she will face summary judgment for it.
Knowing that Wright had a warrant is immaterial. Knowing that Wright resisted arrest doesn't excuse it or even mitigate it. If he had pulled a gun? Okay, different story. But he didn't. She screwed up. And now we're all paying for it.
