School where a teenage boy, 16, was allegedly stabbed with a religious knife DEFENDS allowing students to bring in traditional blades to 'meet aspects of their faith'

It doesn't seem that Muslims carry a religious knife. It is Sikhs that do. It is called a kirpan.
The article doesn't contain enough information about the incident. The kirpan should never have been drawn at a school. I think most Sikhs would agree but I don't know. It is difficult for laws to override religious practices if freedom of religion is a principle of the nation?
The boy with the kirpan was 14 and the victim in the altercation was 16. Was the older boy intimidating the younger boy or bullying him?
I wouldn't get all in kerfuffle about this until I had more facts. There may be rules that ban weapons from being carried by students to the school in which case someone carrying a kirpan would have to have been granted an exception with an understanding of the responsibility of ever having to draw it.
Anyway, freedom and liberty require responsibility. I think this 14 year old may not be responsible enough to wear what is supposed to be a mostly ceremonial dagger to school and the 16 year old was at best teasing him and at worst bullying him and pushing him around.
