Well it was bound to happen. A high school in Mason Ohio does away with Valedictorian, Salutatorian distinctions to 'reduce competitive culture' for its students.
In Short...they have just turned all diplomas into "Participation Trophies!"

Ten years ago I saw this participation trophy stuff play out in the silicon valley at a tech company I was working for at the time. The company made the decision to change the employee awards program, from senior management selecting a few to give monetary awards to for exceptional work, to your peers nominating each other for monetary awards. They changed it because those that were not getting awards from management felt it was unfair and everyone should be awarded. The results, everyone started to get awarded by their peers but for average work or just being on a team. Also, because of the volume of the awards their value dropped significantly, which made the incentive to be exceptional, not worth it. When you remove healthy competition, excellence is no longer the goal, but, instead, mediocrity. That's not how America became exceptional.

@MADcHATTER No, they are still in business. But, there was an increase in turnover as folks were no longer incentivized.
Anything that is Free or Equal, has no value!!!!!!
