Not sure how much money did he made with those movies, to be honest. I think he might have not had much success with it on the box office, but it became so called cult classic, later on VHS and DVD. I think the Metal Gear Solid video games serious was inspired by the main character so it probably gave it extra boost in popularity later on in the 1990's and 2000's.
