basis for the 2nd amendment is to protect and to preserve ones life and the lives of others and NOT for protecting property as you suggest.

Vigilante justice is expressly against the law as it should be IMHO.

As for revolution I think you're intentionally leaving out the "should a gov't become oppressive..." it is the responsibility of the people to throw off that gov't and start anew...probably an awkward paraphrasing of it but you know what I am referring to here.

We the People can NEVER trust gov't to NEVER become corrupt and oppressive. In fact there is a very good case to be made for the notion that corruption and oppression are the ends to the logical progression of governance itself.

I do NOT trust Gov't - I have never trusted Gov't and I certainly do NOT trust gov't with the responsibility for my own personal protection from men who would do evil to myself and others. Police generally arrive in time to clean up the blood and to file reports. No thank you. I will take responsibility for my own protection.

@iThink When I see the proliferation of public carry and "stand your ground" laws, I get the sense that vigilante justice has become part of the basis for gun law.

And the most avid gun enthusiasts I know, while also avid hunters, openly admit to keeping so many guns primarily because they're afraid that urban Black Lives Matters protesters will single out their rural home to burglarize and rape their wife.

Would be better if policing itself was more of a civic duty.

oh and one more thing Ricky - If you think that the holocaust is a "one off" - a proverbial "black swan" ,something that is not likely to happen again there are the souls of about a billion people who have been murdered and or "disappeared" under brutal and oppressive regimes since the end of WWII which if they could talk would testify to the folly of that kind of thinking.

Some were shot, others intentionally starved to death, others imprisoned and put to hard labor in brutal conditions where they died, and as I said many thousands "disappeared" - I seem to remember some reports of "the disappeared" in places like Nicaragua and El Salvador not that long ago.

And if you think that kind of thing can't happen here in USA I would vehemently disagree.

Most people I know who carry firearms (I am one) do approach it as a duty to oneself, ones own family and to the general public. I and others I know take it as a grave responsibility and we use common sense in how we go about doing it.

Stand your ground is a poor choice of words IMHO. It is rather arbitrary and almost impossible to define. Nevertheless, I believe if a person (of any skin color) does not want to run the risk of getting shot then maybe they should find something better to do with their time and energy than to go robbing and stealing and generally creating fear in innocent people. Don't break into my house, don't try to jack my car, don't go knocking people down to steal their purses, cell phones etc...don't do those things and there is negligible probability that you'll ever be shot. As I said before the police are not capable of protecting us from thugs...the police only arrive after the fact. So, if you choose to go unarmed - fine - that's your option and I respect that. But you have no business denying others their right to own and to carry personal firearms.

No one I know here in the "burbs" worries about evil Black men coming to rape our wives...etc...However, it is NOT uncommon for car-jackings to take place in suburban areas - you know like shopping malls and such - where "rich white people be" - LOL...

BTW, I have owned and carried since long before anyone ever heard of Barack Obama, BLM, Antifa, Knockout game, car jacking etc...I've been personally armed since my mid-twenties. I am well trained and quite proficient and I pray that I will never have to shoot anybody. I came close when I was 33 years old. A man tried to force his way into my apartment at 2am. I produced my gun, he ran before I could shoot him...and it's a good thing because I was definitely going to shoot him.
