Those of a certain age may remember this conversation from the first show of The Beverly Hillbillies:

Jed: Government says they're gonna pay me in some new kind of dollars.

Aunt Pearl: There ain’t no new kind of dollars, Jed.

Jed: Yeah, there are. What was it he called ‘em, Granny?

Granny: Million dollars.

Elizabeth Warren’s got a whole new kind of dollars herself: trillion dollars.

The depths of her economic illiteracy, and those sharing the stage with her, is beyond staggering. What’s even more mystifying is that in many cases it seems fueled, not just by cynical political calculation, but by genuine belief, and an unshakable faith in things for which there not only is no supporting evidence, but a vast history of proof that their enshrined beliefs lead only to poverty, enslavement, and mass murder.

That’s what happens when religious fanatics take control. Whether God, Allah, or History’s inevitable dialectic drives their passion, they joyfully separate themselves from logic, science and reason in general as they attempt to obliterate all heresies with the shining light of truth to illuminate their path.

You don’t bring ideas to a knife fight. You bring a gun.

A lot of (predictable) unhappiness about the religion comment.
Faith is in essence believing something without evidence. Bible is very clear on that and other religions imply that as well. Else it would just be mainstream truth we all know and live by.
And that is the issue I think Edge is trying to raise here.
Ideology based on believe with no evidence is just your own religion... and you are about as useful as a religion extremist who believed his personal faith trumps anyone else’s or actual facts.

If you take offence to that then maybe you need to think about what you believe in and why.

We accept this from religious people because they state that in all honesty.
We do not from non religious people as they claim not to do so.

Edgework is trying to show the hypocrisy of the left inasmuch they claim not to believe without evidence, yet everything they do shows believe with no evidence.

You seem to be talking about at least two different things at the same time. First Warren and her approach to money, then you move on to people of faith and proceed to bash them. Are you saying her views are faith based or driven? If so, please provide quotes or writings to support this supposed link. Also tell us which faith she bases this on. Or perhaps you just wanted to go after her and then felt like going after people of faith as well.

He isn't bashing "people of faith" - In no way is he making a judgement call on religion. He merely points out the fact that Socialist economics is like religion in that it seems to perpetually exist upon a proverbial leap of faith. It lacks any logically evident or historical precedent or "proof" that it actually works.
He is saying that in proselytizing socialism Elizabeth Warren (and others) are counting on their listeners to take a "leap of faith" in that what she says is true.

@iThink @iThink First he hasn’t defined what he means by ‘religious fanatic’. To the average US citizen the founders of our nation would fit the definition. Hell, a Bible believing Christian likely fits the bill to most Americans because while most identify as Christian, not many truly accept the Bible as the Word of God and Jesus as His son. I’ve heard neighbors call people who go to church every Sunday, religious fanatics. Even the use of the phrase’leap Of faith’ is often used in a derogatory manner by many skeptics who see any level of religious faith as irrational and unscientific. The talking points of separating self from logic, science and reason are used on a regular basis to bash people of faith. On their face his words can be read as critical of people of faith. More clarity would help if this isn’t true.

@Clammypollack Thank you for saying this.
Most of us, who have seen the light, are keenly aware of what the source of the real problem in the world is.
America was the greatest nation on earth until we lost the common faith that bound us together.
There were problems of course, but even then, it was mostly the “infidels” or as grandma said, Heathen.
People in general, were less “educated”. Before I became a Christian, I graduated and became a young arrogant architect. It occurred to me one day that I was becoming “sophisticated”.
Before that, I thought being “sophisticated” was what it was all about. Something to be admired.
When I actually started becoming sophisticated, I realized what it really is.
Arrogance, snobbery, pride, bling, intellectual elitism, cold sarcasm..
When I looked in the eyes of my first born, I became aware of the truth and meaning That Jesus Christ gave us. It’s what’s missing in all the other religions and most keenly in politics.
“Grace”. Forgive your enemy, love your neighbor, turn the other cheek. The absence of GRACE is the source of eternal conflict in the middle eastern world. Instead of forgiving a wrong, they never forget. It grows in stature and is passed down through generations as a grudge. Love is lost and replaced by hate.
When we, as a nation, lost our innocence, we lost what truly made us great.

You had me until your religious rant.
Always amazes me how easy it is to lump all religions into one basket and paint them with the same brush.
Very similar to how many people “up north” actually believed that all southern people were like the Beverly Hillbillies. All people who live in the Appalachian mountains were Snuffy Smith.
Where you frum ? Mmmhhmm no one there but steers and queers..
Hollywood bigotry.

You missed the point. It was about fanaticism, which in all forms derived from a religious perspective. The inquisition, ISIS or today’s socialists; all are beyond the reach of logic, reason and intellectual debate. I see no difference between the mad stampede to embrace the New Green Deal, and the Cathar crusade. Both are driven by blind adherence to a faith-based point of view, and both show that once religion reaches the fanaticism stage, one is capable of anything.

It’s not about people of faith, it’s about the way the left has descended into the very fanaticism they profess to abhor.

@Edgework I apologize for my knee jerk reaction.
I totally agree with your assessment of our current political quagmire. Blind, Fanatical, fake rage, fanned by liberal media.
Russia, China, Iran and everyone else with an axe to grind has everyone ready to pounce (as I did).
This illustrates just how affective this campaign is.
Our freedom and democratic republic is on the line.
This is a fight we have to win

Don’t be so quick to apologize. I read it the same way you did. Please see my response above. After reading some of the things that Edgwork has written, I think we were probably wrong in our interpretation but the writing was vague enough and used enough anti-religious buzzwords that we both came to that logical conclusion

@Clammypollack

You are right. I didn’t think through my words with enough care.

It’s too bad that we only have one word to describe both those who seek connection with a spiritual dimension in their lives and whose faith takes them well outside the domains of reason, logic and scientific inquiry (for what is faith, but belief in that for which there is no scientific proof), and those whose faith and belief effortlessly leads them to want to eliminate all those who believe differently. “Religious,” unfortunately, describes both perspectives, even though one is an inwardly directed search for meaning, the other is an outwardly focused crusade that inevitably leads to justification of the worst horrors we can inflict on each other.

Belief in God, a higher power, a predestined moral force in our lives or simply a longing to find a dimension of consciousness beyond the material realm do not deserve to be grouped together with the fanatics willing to wipe out whole peoples in service of their ideology. And yet, I see the difference as one of degree; it’s clear we have not found a way to keep faith from running amok and it is probably not possible. Just because the belief system is centered on Marx and Engles rather than the Holy Trinity doesn’t change the fact that when reason is abandoned, all things both good and evil are possible.

@MaskedRiderChris my thoughts exactly.
I spoiled off, expecting some hormonal teenager to regurgitate what CNN told him.
It all started because The original post hit a nerve.
I was pleasantly surprised. That’s why I keep coming back
