He got his made made and bored out. Decided to try it out by anchoring to a cinder block and touching off the shell with a sledge hammer. Almost blew his foot off. When he came to school on crutches I felt bad for him but could not help laughing like crazy when he told what happened.
He also made throwing stars and knives in metal shop. I had 3 of his knives for decades. A bowie knife, a dagger that was about a foot long, and a small boot knife. I think my brother in law stole them about ten years ago. One of his thrwoing stars was actually more of a dropping star. That thing weighed about 25 pounds.

I wonder if street kids still make zip guns? That was one thing my friend successfully made. A .22 zip gun. That was fun.
I went to school in a different time In the time i was in high school we made 6 black powder rifles and one set of dueling pistols, numerus knives. this involved machining the barrels, trigger mechanism, cast parts for trigger guards and stock plates and carving the stocks.
@KCSantiago When I was in 8th grade I lived in state line Nevada kids were making four shot revolvers with a drill press and a few hand tools, I was only there that year it was a good place to get away from.
@KeVince Things were so very different. When school started back up after Christmas break I remember kids in the parking lot showing of the guns, and knives they got for Christmas. That would get a massive SWAT raid these days. When I started tenth grade that was when I started carrying a pocket knife, mainly because everyone in school had one but me. I hated being the odd man out.
