Carlin was an exceptional thinking man's libertarian before even knew what that meant. I had the great opportunity to see him in 1979 at the Circle Star Theater in San Carlos CA. My left leg was in a hip cast from breaks I received in a high school football game. I think it was supposed to be a birthday present, but my father was enjoying it as much, if not more than I was. After his set, with my leg sticking out of the aisle, I held up a felt tip pen and wiggled it at him as he passed. Sure enough, he plucked it from my fingers and hurriedly scrawled something vaguely resembling his name. About all you could really make out were the G and the C, and people both in front and behind us turned and gave congratulatory pats to my shoulder and arm as if I'd done something remarkable.

The frenetic stream of consciousness that was trademark Carlin and used to great effect by Robin Williams whom I saw later that year, was only interrupted by shouts from the crowd of, "Say the seven words!" Carlin showed a bit of irritation at that, as if hoping that was not all he stood for, one bit. He admonished the few who couldn't contain themselves with promises he'd get there in due time, then asked off the cuff, "Wassa' matter? You have somewhere else to be?" as he looked at his watch and sighed. That was as funny as the other stuff, from "Stuff" to " The Hippy Dippy Weatherman."

I don't remember what happened to the cast. It resided in the corner of my bedroom closet for another year or so, but after I graduated high school and moved away from the North Bay, lots of things from my childhood evaporated, but not the memories of seeing one of the greatest comics and social commenters of our time.

Man, it's been years, mebbe even decades since I last listened to George Carlin, and I'd forgotten how inciteful he was,

To bad he never run for a political office I would have voted for him. Would have loved hearing has addresses to congress they think trump is a problem.
