Obama appears to be determined secure his reputation as absolutely the worst president in US history. He is fighting James Buchanan and Howard Taft for the bottom. But economic growth was greater even for those two.

It is disturbing that he seems to be enjoying the suffering, and clearly willing to play politics with it.

The ugly truth is that a little known junior senator with Obama's voting record, lack of practical experience and lack of personal transparency could only have won the presidency at a time when it felt good for many people to vote for the first "black" presidential candidate. It's very likely that the only reason Hillary won the popular vote was for the similar reason that it felt good to many people to vote for a woman. That was the up side of identity politics. Now the Democratic Party is experiencing the downside of identity politics. Lack luster support for two white males and a splintered party without a logical platform. The irony is that the sin of racism had bestowed on to the third and fourth generation continuing unintended consequences in the form of over compensation.

The were other problems with the Obama presidency. While being the first black president gave him a great deal of cover that cover was a double edged sword. Other presidents may not have acknowledge their critics in the press but they still benefited from that criticism. That lack of self examination that would have come from a normal relationship with the press predisposed Obama to over step practical political limits. When Obama said that it was his intention to pass a health care plan so flawed that the only way it could be fixed would be single payer he opened a window into his soul. In much the same way Obama's failure to act decisively on the Swine Flu, ISIS and many other issues tarnished his presidency in much the same way a spoiled child is likely to realize too late that a lack of criticism leads to bad decisions.
