We see that Trump had a narrow advantage in an otherwise coin-toss election up until the riots - and even the Common Cold Panic was a net wash.
It was his cuckold "give them space to destroy" response that lost him white men in the polls, and now that he is possibly awakening to the mortal danger to America, he is getting tough(er) and getting some of these white men back.
If my models are correct Trump could lose the popular vote by 4%, say 51 to 47 and still win the electoral college. A major problem is that Trump did nothing and is doing nothing about Enemy ballot stuffing in big cities that will tilt most swing states. So even if he would win a nail-biter in a free and fair election, that is what we will not have.
I do not believe our safety should be allowed to rest upon any vote.

He should have all along stood steadfastly with the Republican Governors and bright statisticians who were skeptical of the now discredited Covid doom models. Trump and the hapless Pence stupidly gave the Covid issue over to Fauci/BirxInc. Still, I see these masked idiots (after no masks indoors all through the worst of this!) as part of the out of touch task force. Trump tried to out do Cuomo, befriended Gavin Newsom, backhanded the brave and now wise Governor Brian Kemp all the while bragging endlessly about ventilators. The worse thing Trump has done is repeat the line “millions could have died” if we hadn’t basically shut down the county. So he’s arguing against his own self interest! I see glimmers post July 4th, he’s reserving and listening to more people such as his chief of staff, Mark Meadows. Now, take real steps to arrest AntiFa scum and violent Thugs then post it, brag about it. People are begging for a show of law and order. Kindly ask Ivanka and Jared to leave the WH. They do not represent Trump voters, much less the base. Stay on message, patriotic and presidential.
