Just wanted to add after listening, the British were in fact the first to field a jet fighter, not the Germans. In regards to actually inventing the jet engine, I believe Whittle is credited for that as well.
The reason the Germans were so big on jet technology, was that they didn't have access to quality fuel like the Allies did. They were refining fuel from coal etc. The German piston engines were lagging behind as they had to deal with lower octane ratings. They tried all the tricks they could to keep up, but the jets didn't rely on avgas like the piston engined planes did.
Also, the fact Stixx hasn't seen Das Boot should be enough to have him committed.
