I can't believe what has happened to the beautiful country I used to know. I grew up in the 70's and 80's and I don't think most younger people can even comprehend how much better things were then. America is rapidly degenerating into a hellish, third-world, post-apocalyptic wasteland. All because our so called "leaders" are corrupt, worthless scum with no will or moral courage. Democracy has failed. When people are allowed to vote, they will put leftists in power who will wreck your country. To Hell with democracy.

It's still not lost, but I think you people need to recognize you can't clap with one hand only, you are part of the problem. No offense. It is not a legislative issue whatsoever. If you asked me, it's the lack of adversity that made the left, and the passive comfortableness of the right enabled them. You need to be able to hurt each other trough freedom of speech. It's the only alternative to violence. Some bullying is ethical as adversity is needed in order to put you lifestyle into perspective. As well as to give the future generations space to make mistakes and learn. You are overprotected. And if you as their brothers won't give them an ultimatum in the form of peaceful speech opposition, there is no legislation that will have any effect on their hearts, which is where their inner demons reside.

Remember that there used to be a property qualification for voting. I'd bring back something similar: no right to vote unless you at least $2,000 in income tax the previous fiscal year. Set the bar low enough so that the working poor can vote, high enough to weed out the spongers.

@Valusian Politicians would be more likely to tailor discourse to people who actually work and have a stake in society. People who work hard for their bucks tend to take a dim view of lazy, green-haired SJW students and welfare addicts.

I was told in a conversation once, that the founding fathers never considered the idea of career politicians. That serving in office was a patriotic duty and you then went back to your farm or normal job afterwards. I don't know if thats true or if I even believe it. I won't paint them all with the same brush, but I think its safe to say that for most of them public office is a power grab. Still would not want to live anywhere else, though I can't say that with quite as much enthusiasm at this moment in time.

Lol my 1st vote was for Carter (Yeah i'm that old) and what a stunning disappointment he turned out to be . I guess that happens with Presidents. The '70's even the '80's when i started my family were very different times

Democracy is guaranteed to fail. It's nothing more than mob rule.
That's why America is a Constitutional Republic.
The closer we approximate true democracy... the more the Republic is predictably undermined and supplanted with the tyranny of the mob.
e.g., the 17th Amendment, as @BigBand notes below, and the federal Income Tax... those are probably two of the most damaging corruptions of the original framework.

I loved the 80s . I was a teenager in the 90s and wasn't a big fan of that decade when I was living through it. Now it seems like heaven.
