Slug.com Review.

After using Slug.com for about a week, I will now review it.

Slug.com is like Facebook. I am not very familiar Facebook because it is such a horrible site. Slug.com chose the wrong template. They would have had a better user interface if they had used another template.

Slug.com's main purpose is to be a social website. In this it completely fails. The most basic function of a social website is to allow users to subscribe to content and then view a feed containing the content. But there is no function on Slug.com to allow you to view all posts (threads) of the groups that you have joined. Instead Slug.com shows random content generated by some techo-crap algorithm.

In fact I complained about this and got no response. So Slug.com's customer service is nonexistent. Another fail.

Another key feature of social websites is search. Searching across content is critical to allow users to find new content. Here again Slug.com fails. The "Has all search keywords?" doesn't work. And the search user interface is terrible. There is no way to edit a search query, you just have to re-enter it over and over.

The main reason I am here is that I haven't been banned yet. I am banned everywhere else. But their terms & conditions say:

"The following is a partial list of the kind of content that is illegal or prohibited on the site. Slug.com will investigate and take appropriate legal action in its sole discretion against anyone who violates this provision, including without limitation, removing the offending communication from the service and terminating the membership of such violators. It includes content that: is patently offensive to the online community, such as content that promotes racism, bigotry, hatred or physical harm of any kind against any group or individual;"

Most of what I say offends to most people (because they disagree with me), and I do promote hatred of evil, so those are 2 reasons for me to be banned. A good social website would allow free speech.

So clearly I am not impressed with Slug.com. But then I not suprised by this. The Right makes the world's worst software. I don't know why this is, but all Right-leaning websites are horrible. The Left-leaning websites are also bad, but not so bad as to be completely dysfunctional. Most of the criticisms I listed in this review do not apply to Left-leaning social websites.

By the way, I am a programmer. I do both business programming and open source programming. I do have ideas for a good social website but I just don't have the time to work on it. If anyone here is a programmer who is interested in working on this, I can offer both technical and financial support.
