@Header hmm, reading is your friend: > The girl’s mother, it should be noted, supports the transition. Here is another article: https://www.thestar.com/news/canada/2021/03/19/maybe-things-have-gotten-too-far-father-accused-of-repeatedly-publicly-identifying-transgender-child-jailed-until-trial.html > ...the family dispute started when the father made a bid in court to block a decision by his teenage child — who was assigned female at birth but identifies as male and has the support of his mother — to pursue gender-affirming testosterone hormone therapy in 2018. So the child socially transitioned at their own request, and then began hormone treatments with the support of their mother. So the "bumping your kids full of hormones without parental consent" doesn't fit here. But parental consent seems to be the ultimate authority to you, you are fine with parents marrying off a prepubescent child to an old man.

@Header https://www.advocate.com/politics/2022/4/06/tennessee-considers-straights-only-marriage-option-no-minimum-age > House Bill 233 and the companion Senate Bill 562 would set up a way to register common-law marriages that are in keeping with the definition of marriage approved by Tennessee voters. In 2006, voters amended the state’s constitution to ban same-sex marriage. The amendment was struck down, along with other state bans, in the Supreme Court’s Obergefell v. Hodges ruling. > > Sponsors of the bills are painting them as harmless. “All this bill does is give an alternative form of marriage for those pastors and other individuals who have a conscientious objection to the current pathway to marriage in our law,” the House version’s lead sponsor, Republican Rep. Tom Leatherwood, said at a recent subcommittee hearing, according to TV station WKRN. > But limiting the option to opposite-sex couples court result in court challenges, notes the Tennessee Equality Project, which is campaigning against the legislation. It would also create more paperwork for the local government officials who register marriages. But what is really raising red flags is the fact that neither bill originally listed a minimum age for marriage. > > “There is not an explicit age limit,” Leatherwood acknowledged in the subcommittee hearing. For couples who marry under the existing process, the minimum age is 17. As admitted by the bill's sponsor, Tom Leatherwood, they would be allowing for a path to marriage that has no age limit. Also where are you getting your claim that kids can be pumped full of hormones without parental consent? Please provide even one example.

@Sensrhim4hizvewz their own bathrooms? I don't understand this one. No one is asking for their own bathrooms. There are women's marches. There is a women's history month. There is a Black history month. They "get" parades because they are celebrating overcoming adversity, even today. There isn't typically a parade or celebration or month "dedicated" to the privileged class when that is what is seen as the "default". No need for a White history month when all year round is seen as White history, and teaching Black history is now being banned as "CRT". No need for a White pride parade, as being White doesn't come with centuries of discrimination and fights for civil rights. No one was jailed or murdered just for being White. Being White wasn't a criminal offense. When straight White men are seen as the default, for example in a movie or video game, and having a woman or anyone gay or trans or non-White is seen as "shoving woke nonsense down your throat" then the downtrodden classes have a sense of community around adversity and celebrate surviving and overcoming. Majority still rules in the USA. Some ordinances and propositions are up to vote. We are a representative Democracy where we elect representatives (based on majority vote) who then vote on laws (based on *their* majority). We couldn't even hold hearings on nominating a SCOTUS justice in Obama's last year because the majority blocked it. Trump was impeached because the majority wanted it, and he wasn't convicted because the majority rejected it. However, we still have a government principle of "protect the minority from the tyranny of the majority". Of course majority still rules on general policies, but you don't get to vote on someone else's civil rights. A majority of people could decide they want Black people to be slaves again. That doesn't mean they get to make that decision - the minority is protected. Same goes for other civil rights like religion, voting, marriage, consensual sex, etc. There should be no "return" to a society where the majority can strip away civil rights - that is basically saying we should return to slavery. I could just as easily say freeing Black people from slavery (tolerance) morphed into marriage (allowing mixed-race marriages) which morphed into complete control (letting Black people vote, not having separate but equal bathrooms and water fountains, school desegregation, not letting lunch counter owners refuse service to Black people, etc). Tolerating women led morphed into letting them vote morphed into letting them go to school and have jobs morphed into not being allowed to sexually harass them. I guess your definition of "complete control" differs wildly from mine. However, I am interested to know your comment on my original reply, how many of the ...

@toronto_Georgia what am I trying for exactly? I agree, the video of Biden being ignored while people fawn over Obama is pretty sad / funny. Hey, I couldn't care less about Biden. But no, the Democrats are not trying to replace Biden, nor is Biden a puppet being controlled by some shadow group (being controlled by corporations and lobbyists, sure, like pretty much all politicians). So my original comment still stands - Tucker Carlson argued in court that no reasonable person would believe anything he has to say. Latinx is because, unlike English, Spanish and other Latin languages have gender-specific words. Latino vs Latina would denote male vs female, hence some people using Latinx to keep it gender neutral. Personally I just say Latin. As "Black" or even "Folks" does not denote a gender, it is already neutral, and therefore you don't need to put an X in there. But we all know the real reason you say it. It wasn't even a joke or for satire, as Dillon refuted it was "truth". It is the same "one joke (tm)" that BB keeps churning out. As I said originally, the Right argues for unregulated capitalism and that businesses should be able to do whatever they want - deny service to gay people, refuse to cover BC in insurance, rake in record profits yet still raise prices to consumers (like what is happening currently with gas prices). So Twitter, as a business, is allowed to make their own rules and ban people for violating them. JacksonNought replies on Mar 18, 2022:
@CookieMonster no, Roe hasn't been struck down yet, but the official party platform of the Right is to overturn it, and has been appointing SCOTUS justices who oppose it in preparation. The bills in Texas and now Idaho are furthering the degradation of women's rights. Granted the Republican party doesn't represent the totality of "the Right" but it is the official right-wing platform in the USA, and so it is far from being a fringe group. Additionally, the Right still opposes comprehensive sexual education in school - they push abstinence-only programs, which are proven to increase the rates of teen pregnancy and abortions. There are states in the US which stress that only abstinence is taught in school. There are states where no sexual education is required. There are states with no standards, and it has been proven that groups come in and tell children that condoms cause cancer. The USA spends tens of millions of dollars a year of taxpayer money to fund these abstinence only programs. All approved by the Right. And the LBGTQ+ stuff actually has been happening, not a hypothetical. The censoring of teachers isn't a "standards" issue. The Right has been labeling any discussion on the racist past of America as CRT and stopping schools from acknowledging anything ever happened. The Right has made it clear they don't actually know what CRT is, but label anything remotely critical of America and its handling of race as CRT and is banning it wholesale from schools. Same with any discussion of sexual orientation or gender identity - the Right has made it clear that they don't want to acknowledge these people exist. It would be like the UK passing laws that schools can't talk about the colonization of India or The Troubles in Ireland or how Alan Turing died. The governor of Florida already has signed bills making it illegal to acknowledge racism in the past, but forcing teachers to stress the danger of left-wing ideology. Basic propaganda. This is a thing that already happened. The Right in America is majority religious, and polls have shown a majority of Republicans think the Bible should take precedence over the Constitution. Hardly a fringe group. From what I've read, the Canada law just adds hate crime classification if you mis-gender while engaging in criminal activity, such as intentionally mis-gendering someone while you assault them. Nothing about making mis-gendering illegal generally. Feel free to prove me wrong on this. The meme is nothing but strawmanning and blanketing the entire Left as some fringe elements, and could easily be flipped the other way around.
This is one way to explain political divisions.

JacksonNought replies on Mar 17, 2022:
@CookieMonster why speak in hypotheticals when you can look at what is happening in the real world? Again, speaking strictly of the US, the Right is actively trying to erode and overturn Roe v Wade. There are several states that have laws which will automatically make abortion 100% illegal with no exception if Roe is struck down. The official party platform of the Right is to make abortion illegal. Not just some lone wolves or fringe groups. The Right is actively pushing for it to be legal to fire gay people just for being gay. The Right is actively pushing for it to be legal for a doctor to refuse medical service to someone because they are gay. The Right, including several members of the Supreme Court (pretty official there), are saying they want to overturn marriage equality and ban same-sex marriage again. The Right is actively passing bills censoring what teachers can teach and what kind of history can be presented in class (don't acknowledge gay people exist, don't discuss any topic which may make someone feel guilty for something their ancestors did, etc). The Right is actively banning books. The Right is actively speaking out and protesting against non-Judeo-Christian religions: extremely popular Right-Wing media personalities have advocated for the government to prevent private gatherings of certain religions, such as Charlie Kirk speaking about The Satanic Temple. The Republican governor of Florida yelled at some teenagers to take their masks off at an event. Don't forget that the US government actually arrested people for left wing / communist speech back in the 50s. On the other side, no, the government isn't trying to make it illegal to mis-gender someone. The government isn't banning meat. The government bends over backwards to accommodate religious discrimination (look at Fulton v Philadelphia). All mask and vaccine mandates are struck down - no government is forcing them, only private businesses. So no, a nutter opposing gay rights has way more traction to affect the rights of all gay people, whereas a few people trying to compel speech will get nowhere. So much for the Right leaving people alone.

@SpikeTalon interestingly there has been a decline in some active trolls on several social media sites. Since a lot of sites have shut off in Russia, such as Facebook, some people have seen some instigators disappear - leading people to believe they were Russian trolls who lost their access. In addition, there has been a trend of shifting focus, where a lot of trolls who sowed discord over the US election and Biden's administration are now focusing more on the Russian war and spreading disinformation about Ukraine. There is an active member on this very site who seemed to start doing this, going from almost daily anti-women anti-gay anti-trans posts to now anti-Ukraine pro-Russia posts. That's about it though. I personally haven't really seen any cracking down of posts, especially on this site. Like I said, the pro-Russia guy here is still posting regularly. I haven't seen many bans on this site in general, even some of the more aggressive people. Some people have disappeared, but I can't tell if they just got bored and deleted their accounts or were actually banned - most of them being rabid antisemites (a group about "white liberation from jewish supremacy" comes to mind). I am torn when it comes to government intervention. I am all for companies cracking down on the spread of misinformation, but if the government starts prosecuting people then it becomes a bit authoritarian - you need to balance free spee. Unless it turns out these people were actually foreign trolls or Americans being funded by foreign trolls, then that is fine. If people are being pursued by the government, I think they should aim their sites a little higher. Tucker Carlson, Nick Fuentes, and Lauren Witzke come to mind. I haven't heard of any official channels to report things, or any sources saying this is happening.

@Andyman no straw-manning here. It is an apt comparison. If you think you can dismiss self-professed Christian faith healers and snake handlers and all those people that "most Christians" shun, then you can dismiss any self-professed Satanists who murder or eat people, as "most Satanists" shun and denounce them. In fact, the two main sects of non-theistic Satanism have clear tenets against harming children and animals - something the Abrahamic religions do not. And you can believe that I don't care what you think of me or my religion. I think all Christians are just posers trolling Jews. Good thing neither of us are the ultimate arbiters of what makes a religion. Sticking your fingers in your ears and just telling me I am "simply wrong" isn't a very strong argument. Not much different than telling me Beyonce is part of some ruling new world order by somehow flashing an illuminati symbol on stage. Also, "occult" basically means relating to supernatural or magical beliefs - so Christian or Jewish or Muslim or other theistic religious symbols could be considered occult as well. Could you name some of these celebrities? Who are these self-professed witches? You also realize being a "witch" is Wiccan, not Satanism - completely different religions with different beliefs? You also realize being some new age spiritual hippie and thinking crystals can heal and burning sage will ward off bad energy is also not the same as Wiccan or Satanism - and it isn't much different than thinking a crucifix and prayer can do the same? And you also realize that even being Wiccan or Satanist doesn't mean you are sacrificing children and eating babies? So again, show me the actual proof that Hollywood celebrities are engaging in "Satanic" rituals and eating people, and not just looney YouTubers who also think Trump is wearing Biden's face to remain president. I wonder what you think of the occult symbolism in this Trump photo?

@Andyman https://www.usccb.org/eucharist > ...bread and wine become the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit and the instrumentality of the priest. The whole Christ is truly present -- body, blood, soul, and divinity -- under the appearances of bread and wine... > Is the Eucharist a symbol? > > The transformed bread and wine are truly the Body and Blood of Christ and are not merely symbols. When Christ said “This is my body” and “This is my blood,” the bread and wine are transubstantiated. Though the bread and wine appear the same to our human faculties, they are actually the real body and blood of Jesus. You were saying? Now where is your actual evidence of actual cannibalism among Satanists?

@Andyman I've been to Catholic masses. They have told me they *literally* believe they are eating the flesh and drinking the blood of Christ. Not symbolism, but literal. Their words, not mine. Also, Fresh is a movie. It is fiction. Not actual cannibalism. Again, stop spreading Satanic Panic.

@Andyman I'm a non-theistic Satanist. Just remember that Catholics quite literally believe in cannibalism and blood drinking through communion. So stop promoting Satanic panic.

You seem to be ignoring the First Amendement, the primary right enumerated by the Constitution, which includes "freedom of religion". This includes both non-religion and Atheism.
