Our Constitution is not broken but our system of Representative democracy is clearly damaged.
JacksonNought comments on Dec 22, 2020:
We need to dismantle the electoral college, or at least re-think it. Every cycle, there are really only a few states that really matter, and often millions upon millions of votes are discounted because of sparsely populated states. We also need to change our representation, as two senators for Montana (1 million people) doesn't mean we should have only two senators in CA (40 million people). We need to take all money out of politics, no more millionaires and billionaires setting the rules, and limit the election cycle to a few months. We should also remove the stranglehold the Democrats and Republicans have on America, and start giving third parties more national attention and a spot on the debate stage.

JacksonNought comments on Dec 22, 2020:
If people were to read the actual article, they would see that the county said this is an isolated case, and the only known case. Definitely not widespread, definitely nothing that could swing the vote. But if you want to keep investigating, you see how Republicans are trying to cheat for Trump. So maybe we should had several red states to Biden, increase his lead even more.

Great to see. A huge deterrent in the major parties is their reliance on religion / god as their platform. The "nones" are the fastest growing population in the US, perhaps it's time politicians pander to us.

Haha, what a load of crap. First the whole loyalty nonsense in the beginning. Trump is loyal to a fault? Are you kidding me? Is that why he agreed to pay contractors for work in his hotels and casinos, and then when the bill came due he refused and sued them to he wouldn't have to pay, essentially bankrupting several small businesses to the point that no one will agree to work for him? Is that why he kept throwing people under the bus to protect himself, like Cohen, Bolton, Bannon, Tillerson, Mattis, Kelly, Sessions, Sondland, McMaster, Scaramucci... I could go on. His obsession with loyalty is a one way street, where he expects people to sacrifice everything to support him unequivocally, no matter what he does. A true leader would be humble and accept criticism and being told when they go astray - Trump only wishes to be surrounded by yes men and an echo chamber. Also this notion that people who support Trump are "patriots" and those who don't are "traitors" is serious authoritarianism. I thought you people didn't support polling and predictions? Yet now you want to claim the election must have been fraudulent because Trump *should have* gotten 80 million votes and 400 electoral college votes, while Biden *should have* gotten only 20 million votes and 100 electoral college votes? Where did you get these numbers from, a crystal ball? Are we really supposed to just take Trump's incoherent Tweeting as fact, and throw out millions of valid votes and just hand him the election? Again, pure echoes of dictatorship. The cognitive dissonance here is mind-boggling. Now you want countless investigations and you think we should want to ensure the integrity of the election. But of course when we were investigating Russian collusion and the Ukraine call, it was all a "sham" and a "hoax" and a "waste of time" that should have been blocked and shut down immediately. Funny how you only pretend to care about integrity when it is in an attempt to benefit yourselves. Also, this video is straight-up misleading. Just like the Texas lawsuit, Powell's lawsuit is *docketed* with the SCOTUS - there is no guarantee they will hear it, and they will most likely throw it out for similar reasons: no standing, and a total lack of evidence. Just accept it. Trump lost, Biden won. You'll have at least 4 years to to complain and fear-monger, what you do best. Though you, Krunoslav specifically, are not a US resident or citizen and have absolutely no skin in the game, so perhaps you should stop trying to commit foreign interference in our election.

JacksonNought comments on Dec 18, 2020:
It depends on what they tell me. If they tell me something I already know, or something that has been already backed up by mounds of evidence and empirical data, I tend to believe it. If it is something personal about them, I might believe it if they didn't have a track-record for lying, but if it is anecdotal evidence I wouldn't necessarily apply it to a larger purpose. My default mode is to always be skeptical, and to double check for myself. To play into the "Left" part of this group, I don't believe Conservatives when they tell me what "Liberals" think. I don't believe people who tell me the "truth" about their god or Christianity. I don't believe people who say Trump won the 2020 election.
Can only white people be racist?
JacksonNought comments on Dec 18, 2020:
It really does come down to the definition. If we are talking the USA, and institutionalized racism, then yes it really only applies to white people, because they are the majority and have power and privilege. Just as saying if we are discussing institutionalized sexism in the USA, it only applies to men. USA institutionalized religious bigotry - only Christians. If we talk about the "ism" in general, as in racism is being prejudiced based on race, then yes any race is capable of being racist towards another.

These tantrums are pretty funny (though mostly sad) as you make it out like this is a new mindset for Conservatives, just your way of retaliating for how Trump was treated in his term...as if you didn't spend every second of Obama's term insulting every little thing he did (including wearing a tan suit or putting mustard on a burger), claiming he was a "secret Muslim" and not born in the US and not a legitimate president, spreading rumors that he was gay and Michelle was really a man, constantly fear-mongering, and everything else you accuse Liberals of doing. As per your list... #3, Biden released 22 years of tax returns. Trump hasn't released his, still uses the phony "they're all in audit" excuse. Trump claims he paid hundreds of thousands more than the $750 in taxes he is accused of, yet refuses to prove it. It took investigators to find Trump's secret Chinese bank account, and the hundreds of millions of dollars of debt he has with *someone* - not the US. What is he hiding? #5, still clinging to your false narrative that somehow rioting, and ANTIFA, are some sort of Soros funded organized plot, hm? #8, I thought you snowflakes were already crying for your safe spaces the past 4 years? You couldn't bear to here anything negative about your glorious leader. And now you cry about being told your guy lost. #9, while you cry about Democrats trying to help the less fortunate and create social safety nets, the Republicans are taking your tax dollars to give millionaires and billionaires tax cuts so they can get bigger bonuses, giving billions in PPE to wealthy megachurches and Trump and Kushner, lining the personal pockets of Trump with his golf trips, and trying to kick millions of paying Americans off of healthcare. #11, when your 401K crashes, it will be Trump's fault for trying to give you a few extra dollars *now* while planning for a harsh reality *later*. #12, haha, again with the "Socialism" bogeyman. Yeah, that's why Biden won the primary and is not the President-Elect, the most hardcore Left-Wing Progressives are criticizing his platform and cabinet picks. I guess that means Republicans voted in Authoritarianism in 2016? #13, you do realize the President doesn't control the price of gas, right? #14, hmm, I don't know, trying to steal an election and hand it to Trump is pretty serious, even if they didn't break a window. But if you want violence, perhaps you should have joined the Proud Boys in DC, as there have been multiple accounts of violence erupting. Forcing Taxpayers to Fund Abortions?
JacksonNought comments on Dec 15, 2020:
Don't see why you care. You don't live in the US, your money isn't funding anything here. However, for those of us who do live in the US, we cannot choose how our taxes are spent. Someone may object to their taxes funding someone's abortion - and currently they wouldn't have to worry, because of the Hyde Amendment. But if someone doesn't want their taxpayer dollars used to buy another tank to go kill people in a frivolous war, they are out of luck. I don't have children, yet my taxes go towards educating other people's kids. I'd prefer my tax dollars not go towards Trump golfing 150 times, or having his Secret Service stay at his hotels and line his pockets. A third of taxpayer funding for sexual education goes towards "Abstinence-Only" programs, which are not held to any standard, and can teach factually-incorrect information like "condoms cause cancer" - these are public school programs, funded by my tax dollars, which are spreading disinformation... and I have no say in this. The Catholic Church received billions of dollars in COVID relief, funded by taxpayers, and I couldn't object. The SCOTUS ruled that taxpayer-funded grants can go to private religious schools, like to upgrade their playground equipment, and I can't opt-out. So cry me a river that Democrats want to remove the Hyde Amendment. Maybe Christians can now experience what it is like to have your taxpayer dollars used for things you object to.

Have some free time today, so I thought I'd comment on this. 1. This is fine. I am glad he enjoys living in America. I do as well. But I can recognize that America isn't the greatest country in every area in all ways. There are definitely countries with better education systems. Better healthcare. Higher rates of happiness. Less divisive political atmospheres. Shorter and smoother election cycles. Less religious bigotry. I am happy to be an American, but there are plenty of people in other countries who are happy they are not. 2. This is good, though I wonder what qualifies as "pursuit"? Does this mean you are free to do what makes you happy, but not guaranteed that it will indeed make you happy? If so, I agree with this one, no arguments. Though since this was in 2013, and same-sex marriage was not yet legal (on a federal level), I wonder if he meant something else. Was Rowe okay with this, as homosexuals were allowed to sue for equal protection, but not guaranteed it? 3. I don't agree with this. There can definitely be bad jobs. Perhaps more bad job situations / environments instead, as you can definitely be in a toxic work environment. Unpaid internships, harassment, exploitation, etc. I also think a job can definitely be bad if it pays less than a living wage, while also requiring so much of your time that you can't even get a second job to make ends meet, that you can't take a sick day without risking getting losing your home or going hungry for a day. But again, that might be more situational, not inherently the job itself. I am not sure. I do think it is comical that some staunch Conservatives would clap at this "ethic" when it literally means sex work is a valid job. 4. Any job *can* be done with passion and enthusiasm, but it should not be required. You do not have to love your job flipping burgers as long as you do your job well. You can see a job as a way to make ends meet. Being passionate and enthusiastic should not be a requirement, and it is fine to dream bigger. Isn't that what the "American Dream" is all about - always dreaming for bigger success, working your way up in life? 5. This is good, in theory. But sometimes debt is necessary. Doctors usually incur a fair amount a debt for their schooling, an investment that they will be able to pay it off with the fruits of their efforts. Same with getting a loan for a business, buying a house, a car, etc. If everyone followed this, we'd all be eating beans in tents. 6. I am okay with this mostly. At the end of the day, we are responsible for our own wellbeing. That doesn't mean, as a functioning society, we can't take efforts to ensure others' safety. For example, you can't blame someone for getting injured in a car crash because a drunk driver hit them, saying they could...

But of course now he is to be taken 100% literally when he says it is the biggest fraud ever, the most rigged, etc. Trump is a pathological liar. He said he would produce his tax returns, he never did. He said he had private investigators finding unbelievable things in Hawaii which would call into question Obama being born in the US, which he would reveal shorty... he never revealed anything, and on the campaign trail finally admitted Obama was born in the US. He said he had an amazing health care plan, which would be coming out in the next few weeks... he said that for four years, and it never came to fruition. He fearmongered about the "Migrant Caravan" and how it was an "invasion" and the most serious issue we've ever faced... until the midterms were over, and then he never mentioned it again. Yet somehow *this time* he is telling the truth and is actually sitting on evidence and we should take him at face value. For months Trump refused to say he would accept the results if he lost, saying that the only way he could ever lose was if it was rigged. And so he lost, and true to his word (for once in his life) he is now saying it was rigged. Surprise surprise, it's almost as if he was telling us his plan all along.

Their whole argument is to try and find one or two ballots which are hard to verify, and then extrapolate that to mean all ballots are bad and so the legislature should get to pick who wins the state. notice how this is only happening in states that went for Biden. Why don't we look at the Trump states? West Virginia and Oklahoma went 100% red - not one single blue county. Every other state had at least one blue or one red county, but not them. That seems very suspicious. We should look at those states and see if there are any bad ballots, and if we find just one we can assume they can't be trusted and just award the states to Biden. It works both ways.

Tucker Carlson said he offered her as much airtime as she wanted to present even a modicum of evidence, to which she got upset that he expected any facts from her, so she yelled at him to leave her alone. TruNews then attacked Carlson, claiming he was a pedophile involved in Pizzagate. I'd caution you against believing anything this woman has to say.
I am having trouble understanding the American political system.

1, they swear an oath, but it doesn't have to be on the Bible. An incoming politician can swear on anything, it just so happens that every president we've had has been Christian. You can swear in using the Torah, Koran, a copy of the Constitution, hell even a Dr. Seuss book (it's been done before). 2, please cite specifically what parts of the Constitution Biden has said he will violate. No conjecture, no assuming, no fearmongering about gun grabbing (like Obama). What has he said?

Ah yes, Mr. Schlichter, whose thinly veiled attempts to hawk his latest book involve encouraging his followers to take up arms against people they don't agree with - anyone who isn't a "normal" American, which he basically defines as Straight White Christian Republican Trump supporters. His posts are pretty much the exact same format every time - complain about Liberals, claim they aren't real Americans because they aren't "normal" in his eyes, prophesize a civil war, say it is just like his new book, fantasize about killing Liberals because his side "has all the guns", throw out childish names and insults and pretend like it is witty, don't forget to mention the book again... As for that quote you have there. Social Justice is all about individual rights. The older generations would die to protect individual liberty... but not if it meant gay people could be open in the military, or get married, or adopt children, or not be fired and denied housing just because of their sexual orientation. The older generations champion freedom of religion above all else... but only if it is Christianity. The older generations benefited from living wages and lower costs for housing and education, and then like to claim current generations are just lazy when wages have stagnated but costs have skyrocketed, and companies only want unpaid interns or unrealistic levels of experience for entry-level positions - there was an entry-level job involving the application Kubernetes which specified a minimum of 12 years experience, when the application is only 6 years old. Give it a rest.

Inreally want to know when the mandates/guidelines will be enough for those who actually think they ...
JacksonNought comments on Nov 18, 2020:
Just curious on your thoughts. How is this different than other government mandates / guidelines? The government already tells use what we have to wear. In many states women are not allowed to go topless, or they can be fined for not wearing the right kind of bikini bottom on beaches. Stores have the right to dictate dress codes, and can refuse someone entry or service for not wearing shirts or shoes. In the 2000's, several cities in the US passed ordinances banning "saggy pants" which would lead to fines and jail / community service. There used to be laws against cross-dressing. In Blythe, CA, it is illegal to wear cowboy boots unless you own at least two cows. There are laws against wearing military uniforms / ranks that do not apply. The government already tells us where we can congregate. You are not allowed in public parks after sundown. North Carolina still has a law making co-habitation before marriage a misdemeanor. There are ordinances making people need permits to hold rallies or marches, and plenty of regulations adding conditions to the right to peacefully assemble / protest. The government already tells us what jobs we can do, or where we can engage in commerce. In most states, prostitution is illegal. In some places, even stripping is illegal. Setting up a kiosk without permits is illegal. Unlicensed gambling is illegal. Selling unpasteurized milk is illegal. Eric Garner was killed by police because he was selling loose cigarettes. In places where drugs are legalized, you still need to buy from a state-sanctioned dispensary. You live in PA, as do I - so you know full well the history of the blue / alcohol laws we've had. For decades the government dictated who we could marry, making mixed-race and same-sex unions illegal. It still has laws against incestuous marriage or polygamy. The government had laws against consuming alcohol in Prohibition, and still has many laws against consuming other drugs. The government used to police what people did in their own bedrooms, arresting consenting adults for homosexuality. The government has restrictions on the 2nd Amendment, requiring permits and licenses and restricting open carry in many states - both with guns and knives.

JacksonNought comments on Nov 17, 2020:
Not trying to be snarky here, but if Republican states do decide to ignore mandates as some sort of payback, perhaps Biden should then threaten to stop sending aid to those states, denying them a vaccine, etc. I do wonder how Conservative media would respond to that.

Is it possible to talk about Jewish political influence without being called anti-Semitic?
JacksonNought comments on Nov 16, 2020:
As a Jew, it is not concerning. Jews are not some monolith. You can have liberal Jews in politics like Bernie Sanders and conservative Jews in politics like Stephen Miller. You can have liberal Jewish pundits like Sam Seder and conservative Jewish pundits like Ben Shapiro. You can have atheist Jews, secular Jews, orthodox Jews, etc. The typical "political influence" narrative is usually an attempt to claim that Jews have some sort of allegiance to a foreign power, Israel, and therefore are not truly American. You see this when Conservatives claim Democrat Jews are "voting against their interests" and bring up Trump's support of Israel or attacks on BDS. Most Jews have never been to Israel, and many are critical of their government and civil rights - I know I am. For anyone critical of the "George Soros" bogeyman, I wonder if they equally as critical of Sheldon Adelson? If anyone thinks there are "too many Jews" in politics, I wonder if they think there are too many white men in politics? Or too many politicians of Italian or Irish decent? Or too many Christian politicians? How about the fact that the US is only about 20% Catholic, yet the Supreme Court currently is about 70% Catholic - do we have a problem with Catholic political influence?

JacksonNought comments on Nov 11, 2020:
I am sorry you go through that. I know how it feels. As a Liberal / Progressive writing on this primarily right-leaning site, I also get personally attacked. I get called names, told I am evil (which you also perpetuate here with false abortion claims), told I have a mental disorder, etc. Here and other sites I have been told I am subhuman, deserve to be imprisoned and enslaved, or received death threats because of my opinions, religion, and ethnicity. From a non-combative place, let me explain. Harris does not want abortion up to birth. It is a common lie / fear-mongering tactic of Conservative pundits to claim Liberals want to kill children up to their birth, or take them to some separate room immediate after birth to maim and murder them. This is simply not true. Late-term abortions are extremely rare, and only happen in extreme circumstances - for example, if the mother's life is at risk. Abortions after the typical 20 week gestation are also rare and primarily due to medical issues as well - for example, a fetus could die but the woman's body doesn't naturally miscarriage, and so they perform an abortion so the woman doesn't have to deal with remaining pregnant for another 20 weeks and give birth to a dead baby. I have a friend who got pregnant and wanted the baby, but it died and her body didn't miscarriage - she actually had to go through two abortions because the first didn't take, and it was devastating for her. As for taxing corporations, we have had decades to prove that trickle-down economics do not work. In theory the concept is fine - give wealthy individuals and corporations tax breaks, and they will re-invest the saved money for new jobs so that other people will benefit, stimulating the economy. But this is not the reality. What happens is that we give them tax breaks, or even bail-outs, and they decide to use the money to give their execs bigger bonuses, buy back shares, or just to stash in an overseas account.
This is going to be how the next four years play out in America.
