We still feel the effects today - like the religiosity being injected into public society. Just the other day people went apoplectic because a school student said "one nation under Allah" in the pledge, recommending her diplomas should be stripped from her and she should be forced to serve in the US military to atone for her action. This was based on the narrative that "the pledge says one nation under God, how dare you change it". Yet it was changed to add that phrase due to McCarthyism. @SpikeTalon yes, it is fair to say that some outspoken Trump critics are now quite silent when issues arise with Biden, such as stumbling over words or having issues with stairs / ramps. Biden does have well-known stutter, so some stumbling can be forgiven, but I do agree it would have been better if our two choices weren't between two senile septuagenarians. Where I mostly take issue is that while yes, there are those on the Left who are noticeably quiet whenever Biden has an embarrassment, the Right pretty much made "Biden has dementia Trump is a stable genius" their party platform. Many Trump supporters, including on this website, used "Biden has dementia, Biden is old, Biden is unhealthy, Biden is a pedo, Biden uses nepotism" as their whole argument for why Trump was better than Biden, despite the fact that Trump exhibited all of those characteristics in spades. It's no wonder, as one if the things Trump really is the best at is projection - he takes his worst qualities and uses them as attacks on others. Perhaps I would take this more seriously if Trump himself didn't use "Biden has dementia" constantly in his rallies while claiming he himself had the best words and knew science better than scientists and never ever conceding a modicum of humility. As to why Jackson would randomly make this request? Trump may no longer be the president, but the cult of Trump is still very much ingrained into the Republican Party and Right-Wing politics. If you are to have any future in the Republican Party, you must worship at the altar of Trump. Liz Cheney supported Trump 99% of the time, and was ousted just for agreeing that Biden won the election. Rafael Edward Cruz had some of the worst things to say about Trump, who called his wife ugly and accused his father of killing Kennedy, and is now one of his biggest sycophants, completely abandoning his principles to defend Trump. Lindsey Graham previously trashed Trump and spoke highly of Biden, and now he is saying the GOP has no future without Trump. So of course a disgraced doctor would tow the Trumpian line to get future cred. Finally, what is the harm in Biden taking up Jackson on his request. Well, first off, at what point do we let the President actually do his job, instead of having to accommodate any random commentator's request? Does Jackson have enough credibility and a proven history of impartiality to make this a legitimate diagnosis worthy of consideration, or is it just hot air for political clout? Again we can trace this back to Trump, who started the whole birther movement against Obama, complaining for 8 years with zero evidence. @FrankZeleniuk what I don't care about is a couple people creating a an official organization around a movement and whatever "evil intentions" or "Marxism" or being "spiritual" people accuse them of. What I do care about is what brought BLM to life, and what the movement is about - separate of some people profiting off of it. It is like comparing being "pro-life" with being part of the Pro-Life Action League. An ideology vs an organization. When I think of BLM, yes, I completely think of anti police brutality and trying to end the unjust execution of black people by state-mandated goons. You are acting like you were living under a rock and just came across the BLM name for the first time, and didn't have the years of context and meaning behind it all. You say "well maybe BLM should choose a different name if they are only speaking out about police brutality" but then you give a pass to "Pro-Life" when they only speak out about abortion and not anything else related to pro life. They get a pass just because they have been around longer? What about Alliance Defending Freedom, an advocacy group which helps with legal cases strictly involving Christian interests - including trying to make same-sex marriage illegal. Doesn't seem like freedom to me, maybe we should force them to use a different name. Perhaps the same goes for the Family Research Council, which doesn't actually do research but rather spends its time lobbying against same-sex marriage and adoption for same-sex couples? And so when the WHO and CDC learned more information about the virus, they updated recommendations and guidelines. They were able to admit being incorrect. Trump took a hard line stance from the beginning and refused to waiver. Trump repeatedly claimed he knew more about science than actual scientists, encouraged people to ignore the guidelines, hosted super spreader events which killed people (like Herman Cain), mocked his political opponent for following guidelines, and of course said "it is what it is" to half a million people dying. When one person had Ebola on Obama's watch, Trump said that Obama should apologize and resign. With Covid on his watch, Trump changed his tune and said he took no responsibility. Regarding the travel ban, well first off Covid was already here. And second, Trump's ban wasn't absolute - it was only banning Chinese people from entering the US, not American citizens coming from China or other exceptions. It was purely based on racism and not actually trying to stop the virus. Trump helped during the virus? I remember him refusing to let a ship dock because he didn't want the numbers to go up. I also remember him accusing nurses of stealing PPE and lying about needing them, blocking much needed equipment. And then of course the fact that he refused to give relief money to blue states because they were "mean" to him, and he and Kushner were fine with letting some people die. Oh, and let's not forget when Pfizer or Moderna asked his administration if they wanted to purchase millions of doses of the vaccine, he passed on the opportunity.
