@RaithRoguestar the whole "___ can't meme" is to show that people suck at memes by creating outright lies and misinformation. It has nothing to do with people destroying your narrative. In this case, it is you who cannot meme. Also don't act all high and mighty, every time a post a left-leaning meme on this site, the right-wingers come out en masse to cry. You are one of those typical people who see a source that doesn't fit into your preferred echo chamber, so you completely dismiss it, despite it reporting actual facts. There is no opinion in the NPR article I posted - The Satanic Temple had a holiday in Florida which was quite literally vandalized by Christians who couldn't accept it. Criticize NPR all you want, that is just a fact. It happened. What do Mao or Stalin have to do with Atheism? They tried to stamp out religion because they wanted to be god-kings, they didn't kill "in the name of Atheism". That is different than religious wars like the Crusades, where they were killing in the name of their gods. You realize Atheism is quite literally a lack of belief in any gods. It means nothing else. There is no dogma or creeds associated with it. Atheists are good samaritans and criminals. Atheists are left-wing and right-wing. Atheists are pro-choice and pro-life. Also don't give me that crap about Hitler being an Atheist, you lose your argument right there with that spin. He was a Christian, he quite literally believed he was doing what his god and Jesus wanted, and he and Mussolini had the backing of The Vatican. What does FFRF have to do with anything either? It quite literally proves my point. They are trying to uphold the Constitution and the plurality of secular society, protecting people who are being subjected to specific religious compliance in public life. You should be grateful for them. Even if you think your dogma should be legislated, there would be plenty of in-fighting as to which specific interpretation should win.

JacksonNought replies on Feb 15, 2021:
@dentrawler most Atheists are indeed Agnostic. They answer different questions. One is a claim of belief, one is a claim of knowledge. An Agnostic Atheist doesn't believe in any god, but doesn't make a positive claim that there are none, as it is nigh-improvable. @rway, if it is easy to prove, then why is there still so much debate? Why has no one actually proven it? If something must cause something, then where did your god come from? If it exists out of the confines of the rules, then why must it be a god that caused the Big Bang? Why can't it be something else? People who believe in a god or gods, regardless of their belief in motivations or influence, still believe they have intelligence and sentience. This is why they use the term god instead of something else like catalyst. This cannot be proven.

@RaithRoguestar you're just going to post a picture without a shred of context, and assume your meme-text will paint the narrative you choose to display? I searched the image. The top portion actually brought up an article called *How Christianity Destroyed the Pagan World*... might want to look into how Christians in history have enslaved and destroyed the identities of non-Christians. But, I digress... I found another article that could claim that photo is ISIS in Syria destroying temples. Ok... they aren't Atheists, they are Theists. They actually believe in the same god as Christians and Jews, but have different interpretations on what is moral. In this case you have people who believe in a single god, but are at war with those who believe "incorrectly" - they hate those who don't worship and follow the arbitrary dogma in which they do. ISIS is also the extreme fringe, corrupting Islam. Do you want me to show you the terrible vandalism Christians have done in America, from painting swastikas on synagogues to destroying Satanic banners and Atheist holiday displays? Now, the second photo, I will give you the context. The Ten Commandments monument shown was erected in Oklahoma City on the Capitol grounds - public, government land. As our Constitution guarantees, no one religion gets preferential treatment, so seeing as how this monument was on public land, it was turned into a "free speech zone" where other religious viewpoints could be represented. This included a monument provided by The Satanic Temple. Well, rather than let other religions be represented and be granted the equal accommodation that Christians were privileged to, the Oklahoma City Republican-controlled Legislature decided to shut the whole thing down. The Ten Commandments monument was removed and placed at a private location. So, no, Atheists in America did not destroy the Ten Commandments. In fact, it was originally a Baptist minister who sued Oklahoma City for violating the Constitution. Do you have a problem with governments following the law? And as I said in my original comment, Atheists do not "hate God" - they hate what people do in the name of their god, such as stripping away civil rights or murdering people. https://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2014/12/23/372744731/satanic-temples-holiday-display-vandalized-in-florida-capitol https://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/satanic-pentagram-statue-vandalized-nativity-scene-article-1.2917749 https://slug.com/group/satanists/discussion/114024/from-the-missouri-chapter-of-the-satanic-temple-their-adopt-a-street-sign-was-vandalized-our-b

JacksonNought replies on Feb 13, 2021:
@Alysandir it comes from the Lucasfilm statement: https://movieweb.com/gina-carano-fired-lucasfilm-cara-dune/ > Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future. They clearly didn't say they cut ties with her or fired her, as they did when they fired James Gunn ("we have severed our business relationship with him"). All interpretations I have seen have been that she was contracted to be in The Mandalorian per season. There were rumors she'd be in the third season, or potentially get her own spin-off series, all of which were still speculated despite her controversial transphobic and covid-denial social media posts. It wasn't until her latest posts that Disney / Lucasfilm made a decision to stop all future plans. Disney is a corporation that needs to maintain positive PR. Of course they had to put out a message to prevent negative press or guilt-by-association. Carano equated criticism of political views, including Twitter bans for encouraging insurrection and trying to undermine Democracy, as being the same as Nazis rounding up and killing people based on their ethnicity. I find that pretty abhorrent, and I liked Carano. I saw her previous posts as problematic, but I still enjoyed her as an actor (I loved Haywire) and liked her character in The Mandalorian, but the latest comments were a bit much.

JacksonNought replies on Feb 13, 2021:
@RobD1 in your example, it is the government hiring private companies to carry out their direction - they are representing the government in those cases. I agree, in that case, they shouldn't subvert the Constitution - just as I think Christian entities performing government action should not be able to discriminate against LBGTQ people with hiring practices. However, this isn't what is happening with Disney - they are just making movies and TV shows. No one has a right to be on a show. Many states are "right to work" states, where you can be fired for any reason whatsoever, and that is because the USA prefers corporations to people. So, again I ask, what has Kathy Griffin been up to these days? Do you think we should make a big stink about her being removed from the New Years celebration events?

@Hanno my original reply was meant to show that there is no such thing as an "unborn child" as the Lisa meme uses. "Unborn" is just a new term the "pro-life" crowd likes to throw around to try an argue their viewpoint. I see it as no different than PETA trying to rename fish to "sea kittens" to try an shape public perception. I think it is great that your children were able to survive. I would never want a prospective parent to suffer the loss of a wanted child. It can be a different story, however, when the child is unwanted. We already have a broken foster care system, with children suffering mental and physical abuse in a pipeline that often leads to prison. Eager parents can be priced out of adoption, and many pro-lifers would actually prefer children suffer than go to a loving same-sex or single-parent household. We have many pro-lifers who also argue against methods proven to reduce unwanted pregnancy, such as birth control and comprehensive science-based sexual education in school. Viability is a big thing. If the mother wants the fetus out of her, she has every right to do so. If the fetus can survive outside of the womb, and someone wants to foot the bill to keep it on life support to become viable and be adopted, then I am perfectly okay with that. But the ultimate decision is up to the woman, no one else.

If you can stick a cross in your yard and a status of Jesus with no issue, I should be allowed to stick a Satanic statue in my yard and be left alone. If you cannot handle different religions, than perhaps it is you who should move. I hear Russia is extremely Christian, to the point that same-sex couples can be arrested for merely holding hands. @Hanno there is a difference between "alive" and "sentient" or "viable". Viruses and germs are alive. Brain-dead people on life support are alive. The question is if they are sentient and viable. If technology is in a state where a surrogate mother can take a fetus transplant, or artificial wombs can support a fetus, then maybe we can get to a point where fetuses can be supported and grow into viable humans. Until then, a woman can choose to remove a fetus from her body - the viability and survival of that fetus is no longer her problem.

Wrong. > Pan-, a prefix from the Greek πᾶν, pan, meaning "all", "of everything", or "involving all members" of a group. So being pan-sexual means you don't care what gender identity or sex a person is. Bi-sexual usually means you are only attracted to your own gender and the opposite gender. Pan-sexuality doesn't erase anyone else's sexual orientation.

"Even though you said you aren't gay, I am going to keep calling you gay because I think it is funny and an insult, and I will call you a liar and reference some post I made up where you said you were gay." - @Lightman That is essentially how your argument comes off. And yet *again* you apparently aren't able to comprehend the possibility that people can argue for the freedoms of other groups in which they do not identify with. I argue for the bodily autonomy of women, I guess that makes me a woman then? I am not railing against Christianity, only Christian Nationalists trying to force their dogma on others. You apparently don't see a difference. Laws were based on many different principles, not just Christianity. Funny that you refer to "Islamic theocracy" when I am talking about Christian Nationalists. I guess you don't recognize Christian rule as a theocracy, only Islam? Is that what you mean when you say you wouldn't live in a theocracy, because you wouldn't live in an Islamic society? But you'd live in a Christian theocracy, which you don't consider a theocracy. One of the reasons I post about and speak out against Christian Nationalism / Dominionism is because I do not want to live in a theocracy, and we need to make sure we don't like these fringe Christians push our country in that direction. A country that once again you do not live in, so how would you even know what the experience is like? Yes, I do not live in a theocracy. And I would like to keep it that way. I actually do know your religion. You are a Christian Scientist. You believe that prayer alone is the only medicine needed. I remember you once posted about your son dying of appendicitis because you chose to pray for him to be healed rather than taking him to a doctor. Your daughter was then taken by the Department for Child Protection because you were endangering her. Don't deny it, I remember the post pretty clearly. Unless you lied about it. @Lightman So based on some faint memory of a year-old post you can't remember, you just accuse me of lying, with no evidence to back it up? So if I told you that based on a year-old post I cannot provide, you came across as one of the people rioting and looting during the summer, and called you a liar if you denied it... would that be fair? You can't even tell me what I said, yet make baseless accusations. So much for integrity. What is wrong with Jesus? Nothing. I have no problem with Jesus, or any gods for that matter. They are all the same to me - because I don't believe in them, as I am an Atheist. So Jesus, Mohammed, Buddha, Vishnu, take your pick, I don't care. You can worship the Flying Spaghetti Monster, or Xenu and Thetans, for all I care. As someone who believes in religious freedom, I don't care what you worship or what practices you take part in, as long as you don't encroach on my freedom. Where I take issue is when I am forced to take part in your religion, whether that is captive audience prayer, or denying me civil rights because of your particular religious interpretation, or literal force. What about you? Do you think your religion should be mandated? Sure, killing, stealing, and lying are all bad. Well, lying isn't actually illegal in most cases. And killing isn't always illegal either - there are self defense laws, and you can hunt non-human animals, and soldiers go indiscriminately kill people during war. What does any of that have to do with Christianity and Jesus though? Pretty much all religions have similar moral codes against those things. Even non-religious moral teachings, predating Christianity, had similar edicts. Why do we need religion to follow common-sense laws? To paraphrase George Carlin, just have a monument saying be honest & faithful and don't kill, and I'd be fine with it being placed outside of government buildings. But are you forgetting the other 10 Commandments? Should there be forced obedience to a god, and don't you dare take his name in vain? Forced respect to your parents, even if they are deadbeats and abuse you? Keep the Sabbath holy, or else get stoned? I know Jews who won't even lift a finger on the Sabbath, are they better people than Christians who work during that day? I think you are the one who is triggered here. I posted an article about the dangers of Christian Nationalism - from those who want to force their dogma on the country and turn it into a theocracy, to those who participated in an insurrection in the name of their religion, to people who literally want to imprison and execute LGBTQ people and Atheists. The article said nothing critical about general Christians. Yet you take issue with that apparently. If someone posted an article about the dangers of Islamic Extremism, like ...

@rway You are certainly interesting. You have a very different view of Christianity than I have come across most times in my life. 99% of the Christians I encounter (in real life and through mass media) are very clear about the Bible being the word of God (or inspired by) and needing to be followed, and that God's word is final and cannot change, even with society evolving, meaning rules from the days of Christ still need to be followed today. You remind me more of a Christian like Brenda Marie Davies (God is Grey). 1. You are correct vis-à-vis privileges, but I don't think there are any inherent "rights" that transcend government law. At any time a government can take a right away, and you either have to accept it, move to where it is allowed, or be imprisoned or executed. I fall back on the slavery topic, as even after the Constitution was in place, it took almost 100 years for slavery to be abolished, and even then black people were not granted equality. There are also disagreements on what rights people actually have. As I said before, Christians argued that mixed-race couples and same-sex couples didn't have the right to marry, that women didn't have the right to own property, etc. The only way to have true human rights I suppose is anarchy, with no government stepping in. As for the "Christian Uganda Kill The Gays Bill", I am just repeating what those who enacted it claim. It was inspired by Evangelicals from the US coming to Uganda and peddling lies about homosexuality being akin to pedophilia, and giving large donations to influence their law. You are roaming into "No True Scotsman" territory, telling people they are not true Christians if they act in certain ways. 2. Fair enough, at least you recognize that the Constitution allows for unalienable rights, and it is constantly violated by those "holier than thou" in power who outlaw things based on their personal convictions - like drugs or sex work. However, we still disagree on whether this is a Christian stance or not. 3. I guess we have to disagree with this one as well, as I believe in the fundamental right that one's own body is inviolable, subject to one's will alone. This includes being against forced motherhood. 4. Again, you are an interesting Christian, as many many many Christians do cherry pick the Bible and have very strict principles on what secular laws should be allowed based on the Bible. You say they are not true Christians, I am sure they would disagree with you. Many people on this site in fact.

@rway 1. I disagree that rights come from some higher power. Rights are really only as much as your government allows. There is no absolute morality or inherent rights. Go to Russia, which is a supremely-Christian country, and same-sex couples cannot hold hands or kiss in public. Go to the UK, a Christian country utilizing parliamentary democracy, and until recently you couldn't blaspheme. Uganda had a Christian "kill the gays" bill, making homosexuality a capital crime. We are fortunate to live in the USA, which has a wide array of rights, even if some rights took hundreds of years to be granted. > There is no example of a legitimate public Law that contradicts Christian principles. Well then you seem like a Progressive Christian, as much as I am sure you hate that term. Look at many of the Christians in the USA who think that abortion, marriage equality, Satanists and Muslims freely practicing, swearing an oath on something *other* than the Bible, saying "Happy Holidays", etc, should all be banned. Hell, the entire Republican party has a narrative that you aren't a "true American" if you aren't a Christian. 2. Your options are both correct. The USA is most certainly *not* a Christian nation, which is clear from the Constitution. However, it is definitely *too* Christian, as Christians are the majority and those in power have forced their dogma into legislation for centuries, going against the Constitution. You said that being a Christian nation means allowing for individual sovereignty and following secular law, but now are saying that these forced Biblical laws are a reflection of Christianity? So which is it? Why couldn't same-sex couples get married until 2015, despite government civil marriages taking place for decades? Why couldn't women own property until the early 1900s, and then only if they were married? Why is prostitution still illegal in essentially every state, and why is it illegal in many places for women to be topless where men are allowed to be topless? The country has been majority Christian since its founding, and still is today... if you think that we are a Christian nation, and that means full individual freedom and secular-based laws, then why haven't the majority Christians granted full rights centuries ago? You can't say we were founded as a Christian nation if you don't acknowledge the lack of rights as part of Christianity. 3. We can agree on this mostly. It shouldn't matter what their religion is, as long as they follow the Constitution and secular law, and do not legislate their dogma. I certainly think there are Christians who can do this, but there are most definitely ones who put their religion first, above the Constitution. I live in PA, and there was a candidate this last election running for Congress, and I ...

@rway 1. So I guess you'd consider many many many Christians in the US "fake Christians" then - since they try to inject their religion into the state, like Arkansas Rep. Jason Rapert or Ted Cruz, or push their Christianity into the public? You are correct, the State's role is to push Secular Law. But you are wrong, secularism is 100% antithetical to Christian guidelines, and we are most certainly not a Christian nation. But if you want to claim secularism is Christian, then go ahead - remove "God" from state buildings and schools and currency, remove "God" from the Pledge, remove all courthouse 10 Commandment monuments, and truly enforce secularism... then I'll call the US a Christian nation for you. 2. There is a huge difference between "you don't have to call yourself a Christian" and "you must abide by Christian rules". It doesn't matter so much if you can be a non-Christian if you still have to live your life as one, with rules such as Blue Laws, marriage definitions, discrimination, government endorsement, etc. Your "Christianity is voluntary" assertion is a basic mob shakedown tactic - oh, you don't have to pay us protection money, but then it isn't our fault when we break your legs. 3. Many founders of the Enlightenment were Christians, that is true. But they expressly turned away from organized religion and controversial stances which led to conflict. Are you willing to condemn all government representatives who speak publicly about using the Bible as their guide for law? Should we reform the Supreme Court so that over 70% aren't Catholic? 4. Correct, the State cannot control what religion you follow. Though it certainly likes to butt its head into private matters regardless. For decades (and even still today) Rastafarians and Native Americans were breaking the law by using drugs in their sincere religious practices. You are also right, the Constitution should have made slavery illegal, yet it didn't for almost 100 years - and who argued in favor of slavery and mostly led to the Civil War? That's right, Christians, believing the Bible made slavery okay. Who can vote or go to school or have a job is indeed a secular question... but again, Christians argued heavily in favor of only white males being allowed those rights, since once more the Bible apparently mandates women shut up and only serve men. Marriage is pretty simple, once the government got involved. Once the government started granting rights based upon marriage (inheritance, custody, hospital visitation and decisions, taxes, insurance, etc) it became pretty simple, yet Christians used the Bible to argue that races shouldn't mix, and then that same-sex couples shouldn't marry. Religious ceremonies are completely separate - hell, you can even engage in polygamy in a religious ...

@rway > Theocracy of any sort is not Christian at all Yeah, and next you'll tell me anyone who commits a crime isn't a "true Christian". What happened to "I am the LORD thy God...you shall have no other gods before me"? Christianity is all about obedience and subjugation. Just look at how the Puritans ran their society. I'd argue that a Theocracy is the ultimate goal of the Bible. > Who do you suppose "nature's God" is supposed to be? It doesn't really matter, now does it? The Constitution does not mention any god or Christianity, but it *does* mention the free exercise of religion, so all religions are allowed in the US - Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, Satanism, Scientology, Pastafarianism, etc. > from where did you think the entire notion of Individual Sovereignty evolved over the last couple thousand years? Probably from Enlightenment values and free thinkers? I do not see "individual sovereignty" as a Christian value - just look at how Christians argued for slavery, against mixed-race and same-sex marriages, against abortion... Christians do not recognize individual sovereignty, as they think we are servants of their god and our bodies are subject to his demands. > Our entire society was designed to accommodate and support the beliefs, practices, and social mores of a Christian populace; and to be in no-way contradictory to that culture. Hmm, you might want to tell the Constitution that. The Constitution directly contradicts the Ten Commandments and the Bible by allowing freedom of religion. America is even less Christian now that slavery is illegal, women can vote and go to college, same-sex couples can marry, etc.

@Lightman as I've expressed before, you probably have a different experience in Australia than I do in the USA. Christians shove their religion down our throats 24/7, from trying to put Christian monuments at government courthouses, sticking references to their God in schools and on currency, blocking non-Christians from speaking before city council meetings (which let Christians lead prayer), blocking Atheists and non-Abrahamic dead soldiers from having symbols representative of their beliefs on their tombstones, throwing fits about a mythical "War on Christmas" if coffee cups aren't wintery enough for them, claiming you cannot actually be an elected official if you don't swear on a Bible, saying that you can only be a "true American" if you are Christian, legislating dry counties and blue laws to prevent people from buying alcohol (living in PA I've experienced some of the strictest restrictions in the country), previously making it illegal just to be gay, using federal funds to force Abstinence-Only education in schools (where they can lie to children and tell them condoms cause cancer), perpetuating child brides where old men can marry little children... need I go on? What question am I supposed to answer? What god I prefer? I don't believe in any, but as a strong supporter of religious freedom and pluralism, I think you can believe whatever god and religion makes you happy, as long as you don't try to force that belief on someone else. So nice list of the 10 Commandments you got there. So I guess we should say them all, huh? So you have to keep the Sabbath day holy? You need to worship the Christian god? You can't worship idols? You can't blaspheme? You can't be jealous? You can't disrespect your parents (even if they beat and rape you)? Funny how you seem to think the big ones (lying, stealing, murdering) are exclusive to Christianity, when all major religions and ethical systems have had those for millennia. Ever hear of the Code of Hammurabi? I am fine taking the good parts of Christianity (like don't murder) as long as you throw out the rest, like trying to prevent loving same-sex couples from marrying, or letting a woman choose what to do with her body.

America is not now, nor was it ever, a Christian nation. If you can't acknowledge that fact, nothing else you say matters.
Christian nationalism is a threat, and not just from Capitol attackers invoking Jesus
DrHiebert comments on Feb 1, 2021:
ROFLMAO!!!! Better call the ADL and AIPAC! Can't have those Christians living in freedom in THEIR OWN country! Did you know that Jews have THEIR OWN country? Yup, they sure do. A "nation" of Jews. Hypocrisy...oh the hypocrisy!
JacksonNought replies on Feb 1, 2021:
I'm glad I live in America where it isn't a Christian*or* Jewish country. But there is a movement of Evangelicals trying to change the US into a Christian nation. If you can't recognize that, you are blinded by your hatred of Jews.
What's the different between a Q follower and a conservative?

@angelo if you want to criticize Biden, there are plenty of valid ways to do so. I'd suggest avoiding attacks which apply much much much more to Trump, such as pervert, corrupt, geriatric, etc.
I ask. Why in the hell should I only care about Black lives?

@2peros uh huh. So pointing out that your meme is blatantly false is akin to attacking people on the Internet? As opposed to you calling me a petty and small person, and always seeking out my comments to insult me? I've said it before, I'll say it again - you are a joke.

@DrHiebert uh huh. Funny how the experts on "whataboutism" are now telling us to stay focused. Though, pointing out that Biden's issues pale in comparison to Trump's, which is why it was so important to get Trump out of office, *is* focusing on the issue at hand. Trump was the most corrupt crime-ridden family leader using his office to enrich and engorge himself and his family/friends - which is why no matter what projection you throw on Biden, he was still the right choice and better for the country.

@azjc > no reason other than convince(sic) That's a gross mischaracterization. My friend was pregnant and very excited, but her baby died in the womb in the second trimester, and her body did not naturally miscarriage. She needed two separate abortions to remove the dead fetus. People like you would prefer women carry dead fetuses to term.

JacksonNought comments on Jan 28, 2021:

JacksonNought replies on Jan 28, 2021:
@kipmax actually that isn't the definition of murder. Murder is unlawful and requires intent of malice. Legally, if you kill someone with your car in a traffic accident, it isn't murder. Also legally speaking, a fetus is not a human being, or at least not a person with legal rights - parents cannot declare their fetus as a dependent on taxes until it is born. Being a human being doesn't really matter... an adult can't just break into your house and start living there and eating your food, you have the right to kick them out. Same with a fetus, you can kick them out of your home (womb). In either case, the adult and fetus could die if you kick them out, that doesn't mean you are obligated to keep them on.

Biden Signs Executive Order On Abortion, Global Gag Rule
JacksonNought comments on Jan 28, 2021:

JacksonNought replies on Jan 28, 2021:
@kipmax because one's body is inviolable, subject to one's will alone. Most abortions happen when the fetus is a clump of cells with no sentience, and typically late-term abortions only happen when there is a significant risk to the mother's health or it is a non-viable pregnancy. A woman has no obligation to keep a fetus inside of her, nor any obligation to keep the fetus alive if it is unable to survive outside of the womb. You can't even take a life-saving organ from a dead person without their prior-consent.
