TownHall: Dem Candidates on CNN-- Regulate everything you don't ban! [townhall.com]
RobBlair comments on Sep 6, 2019:
Have a child - pay carbon tax. Drive anything other than a moped - pay a carbon tax. Use a grill for Sunday dinner - pay a carbon tax. Lower your AC to less than 79 degrees or heat above 60 - pay a carbon tax. Wind isn't blowing - electricity is "temporarily" not available. Don't worry though, government will protect the data they are collecting on you. Of course you will be assigned a VS score based on how "green" you are. You might ask how our masters can afford personal jets, cool offices, and SUV convoys? Why they are doing important work to make us better. I have to turn my computer off now. I'm at my computer allotment time.

History (divide India into a Muslim nation and a Hindu nation because they did not live happily together) - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Partition_of_India Today "Since Narendra Modi came to power in May 2014 the level of religious persecution of Christians has gone up dramatically. Every year more violent incidents are registered, mainly because the government is looking the other way."- India's persecution of Christians has gone from about 20th in the world to the 10th worst under Modi's Hindu Nationalist agenda. Muslims share an even larger portion of the Indian population (15%+/-) and no doubt receive their share of persecution from the Hindu majority. I had no idea that the Buddhists had such a small percentage share in India. https://www.opendoorsusa.org/christian-persecution/world-watch-list/india/ So certainly not all. The idea that a multi-ethnic or multi-religious state can achieve relative peace is seemingly not a natural progression. People of all religions living happily together - yeah, just think of that "neighbor" we all have. So no, that's happy talk unless you're proposing to lace all of the drinking water with Lithium.

That seems incredibly naive. Can Google and Facebook provide News without the other distributors? Not yet. Therefore the current providers of News have a market power over Google and Facebook. If we give our government the power over the News market, what exactly do you think will happen? The "let's put this fire out by pouring gasoline on it" approach. $4.7 billion can afford you quite a few lobbyists, and that's just Google. What's wrong with putting the news behind a paywall or flashing adds next to articles? Let these giants work this out in the market rather than behind closed doors with our politicians being paid off. They're tone deaf enough without throwing more lobbyist money at them.

Now Mexico is being invaded. Let me check my intersectionality score - black man vs brown - both people of color but is brown more color or less color than black? Really black is the absence of color but I'm pretty sure white, which is all visible colors combined is not higher than black so we'll say tie. Both are physically able, male, but the black man is probably poor since he paid some smuggler to dump him on the shores of Guatemala or some such place. Neither are born in the USA but Mexico is closer so maybe that shaves some points from the officer. Hmm, definitely leaning towards the criminal black man who wants to invade Mexico. We should send some of our scolds down their to tell Mexico that it's against wokeness to further despair these poor black criminals.

The despot, noble or ignoble, is free to do as he pleases (has liberty), but he does not provide a society with liberal principles. Only with open discussions that, at times, criticize the authority, will the rule of the despot have the option to expand into a liberal society. Once obtained, the principles of liberty supersede the authority of the Despot.

We don't get to vote for our beliefs, we vote for one of the candidates. In most cases, I know close to nothing about who I vote for, and I'm fairly politically inclined. Our News is geared towards emotional connections since you can't actually talk about complicated issues in the 30 second spot that you are given. As for honest and moral candidates, they're out there but you have to find them. They don't tend to make the News. The (other) good news is that, with the Internet, we can now listen to in depth interviews on candidates. Made it through the Rogan -Sanders 1 hour interview. Bernie is very knowledgeable about the problems that exist. Unfortunately, his solutions will make things worse, in my opinion.
What qualifies as integration?
RobBlair comments on Aug 28, 2019:
Perhaps its time to take up the "all men are equal" stance? The house of Lords and the royalty have been relegated to pictures on walls. Its just a short hop to officially recognizing that the individual and not the group identity is what's important. If you want to criticize the Muslims for bringing in grooming gangs, or blacks because they have a higher murder rate, have at it. But, when dealing with a Muslim or a black, you aren't dealing with that group but an individual who has just as much value as you. Then, maybe we can stop hearing about British people being arrested because they dared to voice criticisms of some select favored group.

RobBlair comments on Aug 28, 2019:
We don't know, but let's a step back. Trump is negotiating a trade deal with China which will, ostensibly, end the tariffs. Tariffs are bad for the economy. We, as Americans, want Trump to get the best trade deal possible (he's listed several goals for the trade deal) and we want it to happen soon. The long play for China is to undercut the Trump administration and wait for the next presidential election assuming that the next administration will be more agreeable to the previous status quo. Let's be a little more sophisticated in our politics so we don't play into the self defeating games of the past - - Trump meets with Little Rocket Man while, at the same time, our Congress publicly denounces him - We don't have an emergency on the border so Congress undercuts the budget for border security and shuts down the government - to - we now have an emergency so congress passes some additional border funding Internally, yes, excoriate the president for everything you dislike about him. But, for external issues, let's be Americans for a change.

Do you think greed is actually good for economy?
RobBlair comments on Aug 26, 2019:
Greed (Biblical) - the insatiable desire to have what rightfully belongs to others. vs (common) - An excessive desire to acquire or possess more than what one needs or deserves, A capitalist economy (acquisition through mutually beneficial trades), excludes the top definition from the system (proper trades transfer property rights) and keeps greed to an individual's problem (ingratitude). As for the bottom definition, the excessive desire is punished by higher acquisition costs (I have to have the best computer = 5 times the cost, CEO must have a 6 figure salary = 90 hour work weeks with high cost for failure). Problems occur outside of the ideal. With cronyism, as an example, local telecoms can use government policies to exclude competition and extract a higher cost from a local market than what would be supported by an open market. This kind of systemic greed is bad.

Its a light read that I enjoyed. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Physics_of_the_Future Of course Isaac Asimov's Robot books are farfetched but get the mind going in positive directions. For drafting a building project, there used to be a room filled with people (and clouds of cigarette smoke) using pens and templates to draw on vellum sheets. With computers, only 10% of those people are needed and the drawing packages include more detail. When I drive through crowded cities I wonder what all these people do in their office buildings. But, without any thinking from me, they all have work and a purpose. I'm optimistic and excited about advances in technology and AI.

Specifically addressing the anchor baby policy: - It is obvious that encouraging the abuse of our immigration system in this way promotes bad behavior - What does "subject to the jurisdiction thereof" mean to you? Senator Jacob Howard, who worked on the committee that drafted the 14th amendment -, "Every person born within the limits of the United States, and subject to their jurisdiction, is by virtue of natural law and national law a citizen of the United States. This will not, of course, include persons born in the United States who are foreigners, aliens, who belong to the families of ambassadors or foreign ministers accredited to the Government of the United States, but will include every other class of persons. It settles the great question of citizenship and removes all doubt as to what persons are or are not citizens of the United States. This has long been a great desideratum in the jurisprudence and legislation of this country." In "United States vs Wong Kim Ark" the court took it upon itself to legislate that lawful permanent residents (domociled residents) were included as "subject to the jurisdiction thereof." I have sympathy for this decision considering the circumstances. But, legal precedents from bad circumstances causes much foolishness. In any case, the decision was specific to lawful permanent residents. Those people that were playing with you are bad actors and should be removed from impacting the choices you make in your life. What's missing for me is the need to stress that we are not victims. We do exercise choices. And, ultimately, the person we need to unplug from is our baser selves.

I'm skeptical. Two neck bones broken, guards sleeping, reports of yelling. And Dr. Wacasey didn't even talk about the suspicious bruises on Epstein's neck located underneath the two bullet holes.

This man has been destroyed by lies and hate. He is a beggar who thinks he's a king. Demanding charity is not a good look.

Either they are sincere or they are cynical. At this point in history, anyone on the left who is actually sincere is unfounded having recently betrayed all that they used to hold dear (Obama's positions are the enemies now). The surprise is that Trump, who seems very cynical, has been fairly sincere (except about the wall).
