Getting things right isn't as important as feeling good about what you are doing AOC garbage. As for Trump, I don't really see him reflected in the story. Maybe the Architect in fountainhead because he's blowing up the press. But no. Trump is Trump. His magic power is to have the insidious monsters expose their own foolish thoughts out loud. Giving Rubin short shrift for listening to challenging perspectives is not a thing with me. Sure I'll feel a little icky if I listen to Dick Spencer, but I get to choose. Lauren Southern opened my eyes to the South African problem. Molyneux's perspective on IQ is not wrong, but it does point out how we overvalue intelligence and incorrectly devalue those without. Listened to an old Chomsky interview where he claimed that Obama was an old style Republican. That was a good laugh. So really, who on the left should I listen too for a meaty, well thought, intellectual discussion?

We are now treating women as children since clearly we can't treat them as one of the two adults. This is madness.

It happened in Spain in the last century. It happened in Germany. It happened in Italy. It happened in Japan.” and lets go ahead and add Venezuela to the list. History again and again shows the prescience of our founding fathers. The reasoning for the right to bear arms is to combat the potential for Federal tyranny and this is written right into the language. What isn't addressed is how each individual state is allowed to regulate this freedom. The incorporation of the 2nd Amendment at the state level via the 14th amendment only recently occurred in a 2010 Supreme Court decision. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McDonald_v._City_of_Chicago

Germany's Energiewende Flatlines [forbes.com]
RobBlair comments on May 20, 2019:
Just a spec of skepticism and all that money Germany wasted on tilting with windmills could have been spent on research into actual energy possibilities. 1. If solar energy is worthwhile, why does Arizona only get maybe 6% of it's total energy supply from it? 2. If solar panels don't make sense in Arizona, where sunshiny days account for 85% of the year, and considerably closer to the equator, why would Germany think it'd make sense there? 3. The cost curve on wind power does provide some speculation into the use of future wind turbine generators. The cost per kWH has plummeted over the decades. However, wind suffers from the same major problem solar does except in a worse way. When the wind isn't blowing, where is the electricity coming from? Battery technology is not yet where it needs to be. 4. There is a speculative sunset coming for the use of these energy sources. Commercial fusion generators will start their early days within the next decade. This shortsightedness by the Germans can only be excused by ignorant mob mentality pushing an agenda using fear and foolishness.
I think we need to talk about whats going on with the site.
RobBlair comments on May 20, 2019:
OK seems the guidelines are a little more focused now. The one most pertinent is: "4. We welcome debate and dissent but personal attacks, persistent trolling and similar abuse will not be tolerated" I don't have a problem with this. I'd prefer some tolerance and a correcting/teaching method so that we have a chance to repent, but that function would require more features with our posts. (ex. you identify a post that personally attacks you - click on actions - click on "Violation - Request Post Correction" - identify what guideline is being violated and add a private message with concerns. Post is blocked from view until owner edits it) The other one : "6. Recognise that there is a difference between criticising a politician, government, organisation, religion or belief and attacking people." So we shouldn't castigate all of the non-American English speaking people because they don't spell properly. I think the biggest lesson to be learned is patience. We didn't pay for this site. We don't make the rules. Give IDW the time to implement policies. Do not consider this place a Democracy. No one else has a vote on policy. Keep current and past policy problems between you and IDW unless you are proposing a new policy for group discussion. There are whole groups dedicated to discussions that other sites are known to be intolerant of.

Thoughts on “Disadvantage Scores” in college admissions.
RobBlair comments on May 17, 2019:
People with higher IQs are more successful. More successful people are richer. Rich people like to live in rich neighborhoods. Rich people have higher IQ children. Higher IQ children score higher on the SATs. The American higher education system is historically one of the best systems to go through the population and sort us by intelligence. In Murray's book "Coming Apart" he attempts to illustrate why this sorting is not entirely a positive thing (a continuation of what he tried to discuss in "The Bell Curve"). The social fabric of the more successful has been maintained. Meanwhile, the less successful, who have been indoctrinated with the "don't get married, don't go to church, do what you want" social mantra are diving into deeper social failure. I argue that the solution isn't to promote people above their abilities (which is what these affirmative action programs wind up doing) but to re-value the working class and to de-value the college degree.

Great Quote?
RobBlair comments on May 16, 2019:
Disagree. Morality must be solely in the individual's domain. If a person has the cure to cancer and demands an exorbitant price for others to use it, that is not immoral but is certainly an adverse affect to society. If someone had the opportunity to steal the cure for cancer and give it freely to society, that is immoral but would be an apparent benefit to society. I have written the above in a way that most people see it, but consider: A person only developed the cure for cancer because they knew they would be well rewarded. Take the incentive away and you are left with nothing. If society accepts theft as a means to benefit itself, it degrades what it means to own property. Without ownership of property, you lose the incentive to own and you are left with nothing. So to come full circle, I agree with the statement as long as you have an eternal perspective. We don't so lets stick to individual rights.

I hesitate to label GS's actions evil though. Relieving liars and fools of their money is a service to humankind (will shorten their reign of power and be a lesson learned to those who look). RobBlair comments on May 15, 2019:
The price for holding to free speech is to be exposed to other people's exercise of free speech. Better words would be antagonistic, aggressive, hostile, etc..

RobBlair comments on May 15, 2019:
A small group of dissidents within a country starts shelling their neighbors. The nation responds with force to defend against the shelling. However, a much larger nation decides that they need to provide a "peace enforcement" operation in defense of the small group of dissidents (their political allies). This peace enforcement expands into a larger war and defeats the home country's military on multiple fronts. The dissidents ethnically cleanse the territories that they conquer by burning the villages of the native populations. Under a later cease fire, the larger nation promotes the gained territories to new nation status in a territorial dispute with the home country. This of course happened in August 2008 between Georgia and Russia. I don't know what Georgia could have done differently (they were pursuing NATO membership at the time), but it did not go well for them. For Israel - Iran, and all "just" wars, the following questions must be answered: - Does the nation have authority to engage in war? - Can they win? - Is peace the goal? - Will damages from inaction exceed damages done during war? - Have other options been exhausted?

Reasonable Democrats don't make the news. Of course, moderate Muslims don't prevent terrorism either. And all democrats can be counted on when bad, freedom losing legislation comes up for a vote. As an example, my senator Bob Casey, whose dad was known for his pro-life position from the left, was happy to add his vote to Obamacare which is federally funding abortions. Had he said a thing, he would have controlled the super majority vote. Recently, when his vote doesn't matter, he voted for a pro-life measure (children born alive act?). Of course the voters are fairly unreasonable too seeing as he was re-elected for doing nothing for his state.

They have the ability to order expensive x-rays and scans but first they need to eliminate the low hanging fruit. Where does it hurt? Did you travel out of state? Anybody in your family have similar problems? BP, weight, height, medical history. Are these answers true? The doctor knows that 90% of the time people with these answers have this problem. That problem can be cheaply treated with a drug. Here's your drug, let me know if anything changes and goodbye. Of course, 2% of the people with these answers have something drastic but it's expensive to diagnose and treat. Of course that won't be what the Dr focusses on. Doctors work on eliminating the cheapest and obvious problems first. I think WebMD is extremely valuable for people to explore before going to the doctors. That way they can evaluate themselves before the appointment.

RobBlair comments on May 8, 2019:
Interesting perspective. Cyber security is a big concern to insurance companies as valuable data can be threatened on a state wide basis. As more people move to coastal areas that continue to be developed it is no surprise that insurance would provide a higher focus on these areas. Love to see the Feds get out of flood insurance. No insurance no payout - not the government's problem. Just like I don't use sewer water for drinking, I will not use the NYT for news.

RobBlair comments on May 7, 2019:
You as an individual are intrinsically important and valuable. Long term depression requires a solution to a problem that may or may not be known. I question if the problem is how you identify sexually. The same people who tell us gender is a social construct and tell us that gender can be fluid, then proceed to tell us that this fluid social construct, whatever that might be, is the cause and solution to your problems. That seems like a very unstable foundation to build your life from.

Facebook and Twitter have a right to their freedom of speech as well. The only government action, if any, should be to unveil what actions have been taken against their customers (increase transparency). The rest of the work needs to be done by the free market. The lemmings that stay on those platforms will either need to learn to swim or fail.

RobBlair comments on May 6, 2019:
South Africa needs to reduce the number of farms so that they can develop the land into something worthwhile like a shanty town with prehistoric latrines. The lawless next to the lawful with minimal support from the "authorities." remove any structure built on the property immediately with zero tolerance. Prosecute trespassing. Clearly the only thing of value to these people is themselves. They need to be placed in confinement for some nominal period so they have incentive to not be thieves. The next door neighbor farm needs to get in on the action since they're next.
Diversity is total bullsht ?
RobBlair comments on May 5, 2019:
Diversity can be beneficial: 1. As the spice of life 2. Under a unifying liberal culture (All are equal and have rights) 3. Under a unifyling job (bad guys are coming and we need to kill them) Diversity outside of western culture is dysfunctional.

(you should at least be giggling now). Third, they claim that experts told them "...it’s difficult to set anything on fire in the open air." This is falsifiable and, upon little review, false. As a structural engineer who knows "things," I would testify that heavy timber produces a char layer when exposed to fire which provides significant fire protection over typical stick build framing. No need to state it though when you can watch it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HAw3ZZm77rc

It might be hopeless. Stefan Molyneux noted that a free society has never been sustained by a population with an average IQ less than 85. The Zulu king, who seems to have some smarts, might be insulated, but it looks like anyone with an IQ above 100 will either be the masters of this emerging slave state, dead or gone.
