Laws do not make people good. They just highlight when you are doing something wrong and help guide us through some complicated relationships contractually. Someone can be evil within any context of law.

I love being married and coming home to my wife and 2 young children. I love being able to support her in raising our kids. I firmly believe that if this life were just about me then this life would suck. Sure my wife (and kids) represents a vulnerability but I like what we are building together. A life of leisure is for when I was a child. Sacrificing my time and energy is what I believe I am called to do.

In 1994 republicans promised to hold votes on numerous popular topics that prior congresses refused to bring to a vote (like term limits). This "Contract with America" was followed by republicans taking over the house of reps for the first time in over a generation. Both partys' reluctance to deal with the border issue pushed Donald Trump into the White House. As for messaging, unless you do your own research you are only getting the left's message from the standard news outlets. It is not going unopposed

I would think that an ideology is not static and not necessarily well defined. It is not one choice but a journey that does not lead everyone to the same place. Religion is similar. More information and experience should shape a person's perspective. It differs in that there is a position of faith that shapes how information is received.

Building the wall is not a popular Republican position (when running Trump was mostly alone). The idea of President Kamala invoking Emergency Powers to implement a socialist takeover has me hoping our courts close that door firmly. Congress must be hammered back into a functional shape.

If you have a relationship with this person then a conversation is in order. With understanding, repentance and then self forgiveness may occur. I would urge that you not considerate it a judgement of their past (you have no right to that position). However, we all need to make judgements to navigate the future.
