FinancialPost: Japan turns back to nuclear power to tackle energy crisis.
TimTuolomne comments on Dec 17, 2022:
I guess the Japanese are as weak as Americans at researching fact. Fukishima was not a failure of nuclear technology. It was human error to design critical support equipment into a pit on a beach, where they could be flooded and fail. Nuclear technology still has one critical flaw: Nuclear waste. Anyone with a fission reactor must be trusted for thousands of years to responsibly control and maintain extremely dangerous nuclear wastes. There are no vessels which can contain it for even a hundred years. How do I know? I worked as a nuclear engineer for part of my career. Am I completely confident that we will responsibly handle it for the duration? Not really. So how do we enforce some agency in some government to keep footing that bill to repackage that waste hundreds of times before it cools down enough to be safe? How many human error events will happen on that endless path? Many. And some will be deadly. The Soviets just walked away from their nuclear wastes, and left it for Russia to allocate funds and manage cleanup and storage. Did they take care of all of it? Did they do it responsibly? No one is completely sure, and we need to be. Does anyone know the true cost of nuclear power in Russia including the cleanup and management of current and future nuclear waste? That remains not completely certain. How many countries now with fission reactors can be counted on to responsibly manage that??? I do not have a warm fuzzy feeling that they all will. Given the current government in the US, utterly blinded to the urgency of anything but power and control, will we?

Democrats only lie. They have since they were founded in 1828, seeking to consolidate their power by standing agianst the Constitution, while calling themselves the "Party of the Common Man." The US Constitution is the only thing standing between the rights of Americans and tyranny. Average Americans don't even want to think about that, and will be unhappy when their right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness disappear, but have no idea that their failure to stand up to criminal Democrats did that.

TimTuolomne comments on Dec 17, 2022:
The reason fusion has not yet been safely possible in 75 years is that its either a bomb that is completely uncontrollable, or it is created by a simulation of the conditions that happen when a bomb goes off - which requires a massive amount of energy from another source, if it isn't coming from the fusion explosion itself. So the real danger is a massive explosion, not a meltdown. Failing to admit that is dishonest. Remember, politicians attempting to assert authority over science created Chernobyl. Furthermore, I question any source that blindly assumes asserting that not producing CO2 is a good thing, as the World levels of atmospheric CO2 move lower than they have been in the history of the World, and potentially threatens the loss of all plant life, which feeds us and provides the Oxygen that we breathe. Q Fusion is meaningless. Q Total is the excess energy produced. Claiming a "breakthrough" without proof of Q Total is ridiculous. Zeihan claims transmission is an issue. Ridiculous. The reason its called a distributed network NOW is because it takes thousands of megawatts generated at large power stations and divides it up successfully in conventional switchgear to distribute power easily across high voltage, low amperage lines, requiring no unusual conductivity. Would larger switchgear be needed? Doubtful. If power were generated from heat taken off at multiple points, which would be logical, it would be no different than conventional large power stations, no matter how many times it was scaled up. The thing is, there are no elements or compounds on Earth that can contain “temperatures greater than the sun.” THAT’s the problem. Not transmission. How do I know? I am a BSME who worked in the power industry - including nuclear in my career. Given the record of the Biden Administration for ignorance and utter blindness to consequence, I would not rule them out setting back any possible fusion progress for hundreds of years, if they are actually dumb enough to drive the attempt. But this has all the hallmarks of several prior claims of successful fusion power production, which proved to be false, and places it in the bad company of "Cold Fusion," the debacle of respected scientists claiming to have produced fusion without heat, and being utterly discredited. Perfect for Democrat subterfuge. It has the hallmarks of a political boondoggle of massive funds with no accountability, that will no doubt end up funding more stolen elections.

Even today there are many who condemn gentiles, and many who condemn Jews. God's has foreseen their evil. And God's logic is even more fantastic and complicated than that.

When there is no Constitution that recognizes inherent rights of the people, not government given rights, so there is no party founded in its defense, and any other party can only be motivated by power. Labor and Conservatives. They could trade places and there would be no functional difference. In the US, Republicans were founded to defend the Constitution, which asserts that the people have rights endowed by God, not the government. That only leaves the other party in the US, the "Democrats," which does not. Democrats can only be motivated by power, and that does not look very good to the public by comparison, so the very survival of the Democrat party depends on successfully slandering the Republican party, and that is what they have done since the founding of the Republican party in 1854. Outside of the US, with only precedent law and no Constitution asserting rights endowed by God, both parties slander each other, and both are motivated by power.

By that time, the only way to stop Hitler was massive mobilization, a trillion dollars*, and millions more lives lost. * In today's dollars, over 100 trillion dollars. TimTuolomne comments on Dec 14, 2022:
Firstly I can't help but wonder what kind of Libertarian will post on a Marxist site. I am a Constitutionalist, and I will not. Secondly, anyone who can't tell the difference between Republicans and Democrats is utterly ignorant of history, and what makes them completely different. The dupes of Marxists and their sympathizers want everyone to believe Republicans are responsible for everything Democrats do. If they don't slander Republicans and the public figures out who Democrats are - which a search of their history alone will reveal, the Dems would be toast overnight. Anyone who falls for the Dems mischief is not very bright. Finally, Marxists and Libertarians have in common the impulse to abandon the Constitution. Strange bedfellows. Their philosophies are actually completely opposite, except in their false belief in the slander of Republicans. But if Libertarians knew their history, they would know that Libertarianism was tried before the Constitution, and it failed, causing anarchy and the loss of the protection of the rights of citizens.

Many politicians and Democrats in the US may never know or admit that there was no pandemic. COVID reporting was cr*p in the US because hospitals were paid to inflate the numbers. The death rate in 2020 remained about 2.5 million for all causes - including COVID-19; within the expected range from prior years. The flu cases reported in 2020 almost disappeared. Why? Because they were reported as COVID. After the truth started to leak out, we learned three things: 1. COVID-19 killed fewer healthy people than the annual flu. Should we be calling the annual flu a pandemic? 2. COVID-19 was only slightly more effective at killing those with co-morbidities than the flu and colds. Almost all of them who died in 2020, were probably going to die in 2020 whether or not there was COVID-19. 3. Current death rates ARE actually elevated, and they are NOT COVID-19 either. The only other event that can possibly explain that is the experimental vaccine.

So the real danger is a massive explosion, not a meltdown. Downplaying that is dishonest. (And I would not buy land within 100 miles of Lawrence Livermore, or a thousand miles downwind.) Genuine innovation died with Chris Kraft. When he retired, the limit on advancing by only changing one variable at a time, to minimize the risk to astronauts, was utterly discarded. NASA was claimed by politics. After that, innovations became clumsy and less safe, and the deaths started. If you know how propulsion works, nuclear drives will never be an effective gravitational escape vehicle. There are limitations to physics that exceed our expectations that "everything is possible." Everything is NOT possible. So don't focus on the impossible, and focus on the possible. That's what Chris Kraft did when he started NASA. Even "interstellar" ion drives require material. When you do the math, you can't possibly lift enough material to go anywhere. Gravitational slingshots are the only way in the foreseeable future, and people still aren't getting outside our solar system with that. No refueling stations out there. The current objectives stated by nations in space are a magnitude greater than anything NASA did in the past. Now space objectives are of the Pollyanna-like level very likely to destroy economies, just as the Soviet economy was destroyed by trying to defeat the US in the Star Wars "battle."

TimTuolomne comments on Dec 10, 2022:
Population III stars were formed 13 to 12.5 billion years ago, and probably none remain. Population II stars are low metallicity and probably do not have Earth-like planets. They tend to be near the center of galaxies. Population I stars like our Sun, that can have planets, are high in metals, mostly are in the spiral arms of galaxies, have a lifespan of about 10 billion years and were formed roughly 1 billion to 1 million years ago - except that our Sun is 4.5 billion years old, so it is among the earliest of the Population I stars. That will probably sound like bad news to extraterrestrial enthusiasts, who hope Earth is more recent so that more ancient, more advanced civilizations could exist, which might give them the capability, time, some very good reason, and somehow the resources to get here. But it would seem that the opposite is true, and that our species - practically just out of the Stone Age, might be among the oldest and most advanced in the Universe. The little green men might not even be amoeba yet. Assuming there even are other forms of life. Sorry guys. Maybe we should try not to blow ourselves up, because there are no advanced creatures out there to save us...except God. And He will only save us in Eternity, not on Earth. I might add that when the military spends money on UFOs, its probably not what they are really spending it on. Their experts already know about this. So when the media tries to scare you about ET being evil, don't buy it.

TimTuolomne comments on Dec 10, 2022:
Sinema’s rationale shows her ignorance of the history of the Democrat Party, and ignorance of the actual difference between the party of corruption and Republicans. So she is also probably ignorant of what makes the US Constitution unique in the World. Sinema would do well to stop serving the party of corruption by declaring herself an independent. By doing that, she helps the Democrats to still dominate the Senate, following Warnock’s theft of office in Georgia. Sinema would do well to examine Tulsi Gabbard’s recent statements. Gabbard left the Democrat Party for the right reasons. A person should not change parties whimsically as Sinema seems to have done. If they leave the Democrat Party it should be deeply researched, as obviously Gabbard has done. If she is somehow unaware of the gross breech of ethics, and probable illegality of Katie Hobbs election fraud and threats, and not inspired by Kari Lake, she is just an ignorant fool.

34C (93F) body temp sounds dangerous to me. I have come to respect wind far more than temperature. With lots of time in weather, I can easily tolerate working down to around -18C (0F) without a jacket, hat or gloves all day, but add wind and all bets are off. I know most can't do that, but all it takes is enduring the discomfort carefully enough not to get frostbite. Then the capillaries build quickly - for me in one season. But in wind, the calories escape too quickly to be restored by normal metabolism, and I need to start wearing a jacket. By 15km/hr, I need an -18C overall. At 20km/hr I need an -40C overall, and so on.

Solar's Lofty Ambitions
TimTuolomne comments on Dec 7, 2022:
Lots of folks who have not bothered to look up the actual data on performance of photovoltaic panels will be utterly unaware of their limitations. This is true because the SEIA has intentionally misled the public with things like the "Efficiency Factor," which has nothing at all to do with the actual efficiency of the photovoltaic panel. The "Efficiency Factor" is a marketing tool used to imply that the panels are close to 100% efficient, without actually making that false claim. Its still an intentional lie. The best commercially available photovoltaic panels are less than 20% efficient at converting light to electricity. Their theoretical maximum efficiency is 36%. They will never even get there. An intelligent person will properly be outraged. Why would they do such a thing if not to directly mislead the public? What else should you know? Well, PV panels degrade from 1/2 to 1% per year. So a 300 Watt panel might only be a 225 Watt panel in 25 years. Any panel sized too close to actual load will almost immediately be inadequate. What about operation? Do they keep going if partially shaded? No. They completely shut down. Ask anyone who has them. What about loss of power in the grid? Unless you bought a large, expensive inverter and battery assembly, a loss of power in the grid at night means you also lose power. All those panels will not provide power without sunlight when the grid goes down, unless you bought batteries. And some of them will not even supply power during the day without batteries, depending on the type of inverter supplied. Did anyone tell you that? Did "solar" advocates mention that 2/3 of energy use in the average home is heat and hot water, and that thermal solar panels are about 5 times more effective per unit area, so much cheaper? No? So what else does the public not know about photovoltaic panels? I think it is highly probable that the entire solar electric panel industry is based on false public perception and shamelessly manipulated support. If anyone bothered to research real-World photovoltaic panel performance based on the amount of sun energy available on the surface of the Earth, they might realize that covering the available land mass of the Earth with solar panels would not be possible practically nor economically, and still might not address the energy needs of the planet. Again shameless promoters will claim that the 174 petaWatts of energy per hour that enters the profile of the Earth is 10,000 times the energy humans need, but they neglect to tell you the facts of the energy that this assumption pretends is available: the 30% sunlight energy reflected back into space, 85% of the remaining sunlight energy going into oceans, more than half of the energy lost in high angle locations ...
