From what I can discern, we have already been in such an inadvertent experiment. The first warning came 30 December (Not by Chinese officials, but by a Chinese doctor, who was arrested for posting it - Dr Li Wenliang, RIP). It hit the social media in February after tens of thousands of Chinese fled Wuhan for all parts of the globe. The COVID-19 tracking sites only show the virus from mid January. I'm guessing those sites do not have the benefit of good data for earlier infections. So at least a month and a half or more of virus spread data is unknown, and in that time the virus didn't care. Given how fast it is, I think we have all been exposed, and that we all have it, but that a very small number of us are in real danger...exactly as if it is a faster moving version of the common cold. The numeric mortality is still far below the common flu. When the panic subsides and the numbers of the actual infected and asymptomatic come in, we shall see if that is what happened.

It is a single point fuel injected gasoline vehicle with three cylinders that is an updated version of the Geo Metro XFI. It gets 60-65 miles per gallon driving normally. Yes driving normally. Not accelerating from zero to 60 in two days. Normally. If you're driving an electric car (30-40 average mpg when you consider the fuel burned at the power station, and inefficiencies in between, and you must recharge in 100 miles) or a hybrid (40-50 average mpg for the best of them), they are all pushing more carbon into the air than my car. When I worked as a young engineer, I was tasked in those days with intentionally designing low tech devices instead of sophisticated stuff that was more fun to design and matched my skills. The managers were driving it that way because they wanted a piece of the market dominated by high tech stuff that was difficult to maintain, and losing market share for mainly that reason. It was an opportunity created by stuff that was too high tech. My company soon dominated the market with low tech, easy maintenance products. This see-saw is happening again, as I've already seen several times in my career. Smart farmers will realize that the high tech only gives them an advantage if they can fix it themselves, and they will favor low tech. Others will disappear.

I disagree that this plays into the hands of the control freaks. I see the population rising up against the Left's criticism of President Trump's handling of the event, including many in the Democrat leadership. This will raise the discomfort in the population in the concept of a One World Government. And I have no problem with caution until we know for sure. We are getting there. Fracking is only done to extract oil from impermeable rock. Impermeable means nothing goes in or out. That means if operators manage to break the rock a few feet to extract oil, its still surrounded by...you guessed it. Impermeable rock. And from the earliest days of oil drilling, it was in the best interests of drillers to prevent water from mixing with oil because it is expensive to separate. So they are very good at it. Finally, to get the oil out of the hole, anything they put in has to come out first. So much for every single argument against it, which you now know are lies.

And government needs to be involved in the free market because...? Businesses area already distancing themselves. I haven't heard it yet, but I know as surely as supply and demand. The event has almost certainly caused most businesses to move to their contingencies they had set up because doing business there is so risky that no reasonable business person would fail to have them. Now the additional cost of doing business there includes bad PR.
