@Geofrank It's a process that has been happening for decades through mergers, acquisitions, and private equity takeovers. Look at the market power of Amazon, the hospitals, real estate, and soon-to-be restaurants and entertainment venues owned by private equity, the charter schools, private prisons, charity instead of welfare, sale or long-term leases of infrastructure and natural resources, defense and aerospace contractors, health care, etc. And look at how all of that is capitalized by the federal government and then captured by its recipients.

@Lexpd1145 Like I said before, my definition of global neoliberalism is a global system of governance where the public sector is privatized, the private sector is consolidated, and democracy is captured by elite businesspeople, financiers, foundations, and oligarchs. Neither of us like it, but it's what we have today. The choice is between austerity and easing, and Americans are biased toward the former because it creates a false scarcity that can turn them into mini-lords if they're lucky. Beyond that, you can dream of isolationism and I can dream of democracy.

@Lexpd1145 In other words, here are our options: 1. Global neoliberalism with austerity at home and easing aboard 2. Global neoliberalism with easing at home and abroad 3. Global democracy with easing at home and abroad 4. Isolationism with austerity at home and easing abroad You may think that you've chosen #4, but you're actually getting #1, at least as long as there is divided government (and still, establishment Democrats tend to be budget hawks and Republicans only use nativism to disempower the working class). Capital knows no borders. #2 is having "The Great Reset" abroad AND at home. #3 is democratic socialism.

It's not exactly a movement toward socialism. Either way, we have global neoliberalism, where the public sector is privatized, the private sector is consolidated, and democracy is captured by elite businesspeople, financiers, foundations, and oligarchs. The difference is whether we get to ease our budgets while the rest of the world does so, or whether we need to have austerity, continuing to shrink our schools, hospitals, and other public goods, and enabling elites to extract our wealth.

And those like MLK Jr. who pressed on, and even momentarily achieved a mandate for equality in education and housing before being shut down within a year by Nixon, were actually akin to Klan members for "focusing too much on race." Likewise, leading up to the Civil Rights Movement, what were the orientations of the NAACP, the Republican Party, the Northern Democratic Party, and the Southern Democratic Party? Was W. E. B. Du Bois a leftist, a liberal, or a conservative? Finally, what was the orientation of the political parties after the 1960s? What happened to the parties, regionally and nationally after the Civil Rights Acts were passed and Goldwater ran on the Republican ticket for President? And how are the two parties oriented toward neoliberalism today? Perhaps, does this destroy the notion that because the Democrats supported slavery 100 years ago today's Republicans must be the party of civil rights?

Trump is beginning to look like a bad loser. Even his son-in-law suggested that it's high time he conceded... That's what I read in several articles. The litigation needs to be substantiated and Trump had better come up with definite proof and evidence quickly if there's any.

@solopro To a certain extent I agree, in terms of how civility is used as an opportunistic cudgel against the left to elbow them out of power. Though the left would be better-mannered and more principled than Trump any day.

Interesting: Trump has had enough of Netanyahu, maybe Israel?
DeplorableToo comments on Nov 8, 2020:
With everything Trump has done to garner peaceful relations with Middle Eastern nations, and Isreal, and the sudden "jump" of Netanyahu to congratulate a politician, who for 47 years ignored Isreal, who can blame our POTUS's response? I think Netanyahu may be blindly grasping at hopes that Biden ...

There appears to have been widespread fraud, especially in PA, but I doubt that Trump will ever be able to prove it in a court of law. At best he might be able to flip a close state back into his favor but that won't be enough to win. I knew that Trump was losing support from white men (he did ...

@FrankZeleniuk Your question has nothing to do with the subject here, but regardless, the Democratic Party does not "define its base in terms of victimhood." We can have a debate about the extent to which the Democratic Party supports civil rights for various constituencies, but you have to act in good faith first. Yes, the Southern Democratic party was the party of slavery in the 1800s. That's a fact, not a point. What follows directly from that fact?

@FrankZeleniuk The problem is there is too much to contest. I am done trying to persuade people who won't question their own hypotheses and gaps in their knowledge.
