RBG was no dummie. She knew how things work. Sure, it's not unreasonable to think she might have uttered those words when chatting with family. Heck, I would expect her to say something along those lines. But if she did, in no way would she expect it to be taken seriously. Assuming this story is even true, how about we all exercise a bit of intellectual honesty on this one.

Achieving success through theft, cheating, reverse engineering, and other illicit means (well, what most of us consider illicit) has been China's m.o. for decades. At one point I wondered if it was a cultural thing, but I know too many honest people who came here from China. But until everyone calls them on it and backs it up with tough sanctions, don't look for the Chinese to stop any time soon.

I need to ask a serious question to the Christian members of this group: Do you still believe in ...
coalburned comments on Sep 13, 2020:
I wish I had a simple answer because I see similar questions often. So many of us believe the sickness, evil, chaos, tragedy, and death in the world points to either a mean God or no God. While I believe everything that happens is filtered through God's fingers, it's impossible for my finite mind to grasp the reasons, of which there are many to choose from, why he allows certain things to happen. All I know is it is all part of his perfect plan. We can understandably complain all we want about how awful, tragic, and unfair things are, but every one of us, both individually and collectively, have brought this on ourselves because at the end of the day we're all sinners. Big time sinners, in fact, even though we object to that notion. We want to think that a loving God would only dispense blessings, happiness, and joy. But any loving parent knows their children have to be disciplined, trained, punished, challenged, taught to deal with life's harsh realities, and learn it's not all fun and games. God, the perfect parent, is no different. The big question I have isn't why he allows bad things to happen. It's why do I fail to be more mindful and thankful for the blessings in my life? I'm not angry with God because of covid. There are much worse things than covid, which has been grossly blown out of proportion. Suffering and death are part and parcel of this very, very short life. When viewed in the context of eternity, this life is just a blink. I'm focused on eternal life, made possible by Jesus, the greatest gift and ultimate antidote to all the misery we experience here on earth.
Slaves didn't have it that bad.

Joe Biden claims 6,100+ members of the military have died of COVID.
coalburned comments on Sep 10, 2020:
I could believe that 6,100 people who served previously in the military have died from covid. After all, covid has claimed a lot of elderly victims, and a lot of elderly people served in the military. But to say 6100 active duty members have died of covid means Joe is in worse shape than we thought. Or maybe his handlers think we're all too stupid to fact check his statements. Even if you add in civilians, dependents, and contractors, the number is less than 200.

How are you doing under Covid lockdown?
coalburned comments on Sep 8, 2020:
I would consider the impact to be moderate. I have no plans to "accommodate" the pandemic because I believe it will be over in November, which tells you I don't think it ever qualified as a true pandemic. The biggest area of impact for me, personally, is on the mental/emotional side. My heart hurts for everyone who has lost their job or seen their business close...it was so unnecessary. I also feel for those who have watched their loved ones' health deteriorate as they battle illness and aging alone. And I despise those who have taken advantage of this situation for their own benefit.... there are too many to count. Looking ahead, I don't plan on doing anything different. I wear a mask only when I choose to, and if I find it bothersome, I pull it down. No one says crap about it, so I'm guessing 90% of us are on the same page. I don't plan on staying home any more than usual, and I'll continue to go to church, dinner, shopping, and traveling just like always. This situation has its inconveniences, but I'm not going to let my life revolve around it.

Antifa "Commander Red" reportedly cried like a bitch when arrested.
coalburned comments on Sep 3, 2020:
Per the NYPost: "An Antifa leader known as Commander Red was busted carrying a flamethrower to a Wisconsin Black Lives Matter rally — and “dropped into the fetal position and began crying” when stopped by cops, officials said. Matthew Banta, 23, is “known to be a violent Antifa member who incites violence in otherwise relatively peaceful protests,” a criminal complaint in his Green Bay arrest record insisted, according to WBAY." The thought of an Antifa bad boy dropping like a 5-year old makes me laugh. Looks like the Green Bay police chief has a zero tolerance policy when it comes to protests...keep them peaceful or pay the price.

When does the freedom of speech go too far?
coalburned comments on Sep 1, 2020:
There are too many variables to answer this one concisely. Does speech really incite violence, or does it simply motivate a heart that is already filled with hatred? And what do you mean by speech that is wrong? That can be purely subjective. Freedom of speech isn't the same a zero censorship. The problem as I see it is pretty simple...certain parties want to limit free speech so their world view rules. We all know what's going on.

Maybe as an American public we are misunderstanding what Hip-Hop is today.
coalburned comments on Sep 1, 2020:
That's an interesting article that makes some good points. If hip-hop is cry for help, those who want to help have a lot of ground to cover. It's a daunting task. I hope the author writes an article on what might be done to address the despair he describes in this one. Not listening to hip-hop would be a good start, but we know that's not likely to happen. Also, should the music industry be taken to task for exploiting poverty, violence, drug use, and sexual irresponsibility? After all, a relatively small number of people are getting very wealthy at the expense of those who have little to begin with.

Why is it that only Whites can be racist?
coalburned comments on Aug 30, 2020:
We all know the deal here. We know who the real racists are. We all know the racist label gets a reaction. Those who use it know this. They know it doesn't actually apply, but that doesn't matter. They only want the reaction. They know the only people who buy in to the misapplication of the label are the ignorant, the lazy, and the uninformed, of which there are many. They also know these antics annoy us to no end because no one like to be falsely accused of anything. For many of us, it's our #1 pet peeve. Those who use the label delight in this, trust me. It's all about misdirection. It's all about avoiding honest dialog, which would expose their true intentions. These people know we're not racist, which Is why my simple response is, prove it. I have absolutely zero shame of being white. Skin color is only meaningful because we make it so.
Are boomers the ones to blame?
coalburned comments on Aug 30, 2020:
You can point to boomers (of which I am one) as the ones who started the slide, but each successive generation has had the opportunity to right the ship. Each has failed. Placing blame is forever looking in the rearview mirror. The question should be, who will put a stop to it? The answer, of course, is it will take all of us.
