Labor saving devices were sold to an economy with the idea that more time then could be spent on leisure, but some may have feared the outcome then, too. What would people do with all the extra time on their hands if they didn't have to work so hard to provide the stuff they needed to live on? Certainly the economy would need to 'evolve' along with the change, when robots are producing all the wealth (which will not happen, by the way). Robots will need servicing, for example, even though they won't be "consuming" wealth, as workers do. So, how is that wealth going to be distributed when it is produced? If no one has any "income" from working to produce wealth, who is going to 'buy' the stuff the robots produce? Other robots, even though they won't be getting paid? Or need anythng. The universal Basic Income idea, through taxation is stupid. What are you going to tax if no one is working and producing 'income'?
