A century of chaos followed. The CCP doesn't want a burgeoning Christian population to be the seed bed of another Taiping Rebellion. I say this as a devout Christian. It doesn't make Biblical sense to me. Then again, it didn't make sense for the Roman emperors to hate Christianity. But they had their cultural historical reasons, just like the Chinese rulers have their reasons.

Howdy @Hanno, I hadn't heard of the deep sea vent RNA experiments. Thank you for bringing that to my attention. Very interesting. I'll do some more reading on those. Experiments of these types demonstrate that skilled scientists, carefully controlling laboratory conditions, can produce complex organic chemicals. In other words, it takes intelligence and design, not random chance. In the article I have read, it said it, "could form RNA strings or polymers up to four ribonucleotides long." That is enough for one codon in a DNA sequence. The E Coli bacteria requires 64 which would be exponentially more complex (at least 2 raised to the power of 64 times as complex) as a single codon. And that's just the DNA, it doesn't include any other parts of the bacterium. In a broad sense, it really doesn't matter whether God created life in 6 days (then took off Saturday to watch Natre Dame play football), or if He took billions of years tinkering with DNA. Life is still a divine miracle.

@Naomi Howdy again. The Gallup polling firm did a poll of the 33 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean a few years back. A hundred-twenty million said they would like to migrate to another country. Forty-two million of them said they would like to migrate to the US. We obviously couldn't handle either of those numbers. One of the basic roles of a nation state is to regulate borders. This administration says it will no longer so so. We are suffering the consequences. The Trump administration erected regulatory and procedural barriers to immigration. These were more effective than the 400-odd miles of wall he had built. Central America suffered a years-long severe drought. As nature's pendulum swings back they are now suffering torrential rain storms. Both of these natural events cause terrible suffering to the people in Central America. These are the economic driving forces of this current migration surge. It would take massive aid to Central American countries to alleviate the economic suffering. But just flooding them with food would destroy local agriculture. Why farm when food is free? This has happened before with Western aid to African countries. A very subtle problem.

@AdrianRainbow Howdy again. Words and grammer mean things and imply things. If they don't, then language is impossible. If you cannot draw conclusions from what is said, then it is not language, but just background noise. The Gospels can be verified as regards to their historicity. They reference people we know who existed, places we have verified existed, and events that we know happened. The Gospels we now have can be verified by their provinance. There are fragments of the Gospel of John that have been dated to within a century of Jesus of Nazareth's life. Many other ancient biblical manuscripts are dated back to 200 AD to 250 AD. These datings far exceed our earliest copies of Homer, Herodotus, Tacitus and Plutarch. They even compare favorably to documentary provinance trail of Shakespeare. Dates in the Gospels are complicated by different dating systems. The system we have now was devised in the Middle Ages. It was inaccurate, but at least it gave us a common dating reference. The Gospels give us both month and year of Jesus of Nazareth's birth. It is not emphasized because Jesus of Nazareth's birthday was not considered an important issue.

If you accept what Josephus wrote about his defense of the Decapolis, the siege of Jerusalem, and the siege of Masada as accurate (and all these things are confirmed by hard archeological evidence) then you implicitly admit Josephus was a reliable witness of history. You also, however, assert he uncharacteristically lurched into fairy tales when he wrote about Jesus of Nazareth. A question "whether you can make words mean so many different things" indeed. As to your assertion about there being no contemporary accounts of Jesus of Nazareth; there are three eyewitness accounts of Jesus of Nazareth's life, along with an account drawn from eyewitness interviews. That are called the Gospels and they are the best attested ancient documents in Western Civilization.

@AdrianRainbow Howdy again. Flavius Josephus was a competent historian. The Great Jewish revolt went from 66 AD until 73 AD. Josephus was born AD 37/38 and was a commander in the revolt. He was born just after Jesus of Nazareth's death. So yes, Josephus was born after Jesus of Nazareth. So so were most biographers of Abraham Lincoln or Joseph Stalin. Flavius Josephus has been proven right in detail after detail, so his accounts of Jesus of Nazareth have credibility. At the very least, his writings prove that an educated man who lived in Judea in the time of the Great Jewish Revolt believed Jesus of Nazareth to have been a real historical person.

@AdrianRainbow Howdy again. OK, proof by assertion is not enough. Flavius Josephus writes about Jesus of Nazareth as a real historical figure. He refers to him in two separate chapters his Antiquities and confirms details in the biblical accounts. Tacitus writes about Jesus of Nazareth in his Annals as a historical figure. Again, his account confirms details of biblical accounts. Pliny the Younger wrote in the reign of Trajan that Christians in that era worshipped Jesus of Nazareth as a god. The Babylonian Talmud refers to Jesus of Nazareth as a historical person, attributes his miracles to sorcery, and attacked his teachings as heretical. Let's see, his most vehement opponents admitted Jesus of Nazareth was a real historical figure, that he was a teacher, and that he worked miracles. Satirist Lucian wrote about Jesus of Nazareth as a historical figure. Like his appellation suggest, he pilloried Jesus of Nazareth (like you do), but he accepted that Jesus of Nazareth was a real person. Sextus Julius Africanus quoted an earlier historian named Thallus, who wrote around 52ad. Africanus records Thallus writing the following: “…in the time of Tiberius Caesar, at full moon, there was a full eclipse of the sun from the sixth hour to the ninth..." This parallels the biblical accounts of the crucifixion. There are other sources, of course, but as Paul said to Festus, "I am persuaded that none of these things are hidden from him; for this thing was not done in a corner." Acts 26:26

@Krunoslav Howdy again. I read Robert Downey Jr. based his portrayal of Tony Stark on his friendship with Elon Musk. I once had a conversation with the guy who started the Barefoot Cruises cruise line. As America's business boomed in the 80s he started another company for office janitorial services, which also boomed. He said starting businesses has two critical hurdles. The first was identifying market needs. The second was finding the cheapest money to start them with. Even in the 80s, the cheapest money came from the government. JP Morgan put together US Steel, which was essentially a monopoly. He avoided antitrust because US Steel was extraordinarily cooperative with the US government, especially with Navy building programs. I think the best parallel to SpaceX' relationship with the US government is the transcontinental railroad expansion in the late 1800s. The government essentially guaranteed their profitablity. I see that happening with SpaceX.

@Naomi Howdy again. Republicans and TR have a complicated relationship. First of all, the GOP was antislavery from its founding. John Wilkes Booth finally decided to kill Lincoln after hearing him speak about the necessity of granting full civil rights to freed Blacks. And Republicans were the party of Lincoln. In this TR was fully in accord with Republican Party. Teddy wanted an activist federal government. But he felt constrained by limits the Constitution placed on his actions. This split the party into progressive and classical liberalism (conservative) wings. So, for example, Republicans pushed through the 19th Amendment (Women's Sufferage). Both wings of the party wanted this. There's no denying Teddy Roosevelt accomplished amazing things.

Taft was a solid President, but not as flashy as Teddy. Teddy formed the Progressive party, split the conservative vote and gave the presidency to Wilson.

Howdy @TheMiddleWay, Give me an open, peer reviewed forensic audit of the vote. If it proves Biden won honestly, then I will be mollified. After all, my side has lost as many times as it has won. Quirky abnormalities in the vote count raise suspicions about the vote. Vociferous refusals to allow audits raise suspicions they are hiding something enormously nefarious. This is poisonous to the legitimacy of the Republic. I'm not sure a successful forensic audit is possible after 3 to 4 months have passed. Much of the physical evidence has been destroyed. That verdict is one of the possible outcomes on a forensic audit. Nonetheless, there is a long history of electoral fraud in our country. 75% of Republican voters believe there is there was widespread fraud in the 2020 elections. Roughly speaking, that's 56 million voters. Real, open, carefully documented audits are necessary to put these fears to rest.
