Why not equality right now?
timon_phocas comments on Feb 3, 2021:
I am reminded of a story from Solzhenitsyn's Gulag Archipelago. Secret police came and evicted a family of kulacks (rich peasants) from their prosperous farm. They took them by train to a river in Siberia, then they took them down the river to a howling wilderness. They threw them off the boat with a handful of tools. The family worked hard and gradually prospered. Years later the secret police came down the river again. They shouted at the farmers, "We exiled you here years ago with nothing because you were kulacks. And here you are kulacks again!" Enforced equality doesn't work because it contradicts human nature.
Imagine being a child in 21st century. Scary....

TESLA Motors collects more from government (tax-payers-money), than it receives from car sales.
timon_phocas comments on Feb 1, 2021:
Every business Musk started, with the exception of PayPal, depends on the government either as either a subsidizer or a customer. Solar City depends on tax breaks for solar panel installation and laws forcing utilities to buy the electricity produced. Tesla depends on federal and state tax breaks for every vehicle sold. The Boring Company really only has governments as its customer base. SpaceX got its start from a NASA contract, and depends on NASA and Space Force launch contracts. If Starlink works out, it will be the first time private monies ever contributed a major profit stream to any of these companies. That does not mean Musk is not brilliantly innovative. It means he knows where the least costly source of money is.

Antifa were the favored thugs of Leftists all through 2019/20; beating anybody they thought was defenseless and ideologically convenient. In 2020 BLM gutted city centers all across the country, and they were favored, too. From my reading, Proud Boys were started as a farce by by some comedian in Hollywood. The MSM Press quickly glommed onto them as the Right Wing equivalent of Antifa, portraying them as Nazi or KKK thugs. I guess they needed a Right Wing threat to balance the increasingly unpopular left wing riots. Do the Proud Boys have a right to exist, to protest, to demand changes? Certainly. Do they have a right to riot and destroy property? Hell no. I still don't know who incited just what actions at the Capitol on January 6. I do know that it's being used by Democrats as the Reichstag Fire of this generation.

So what? When I joined my Recon platoon back in 1978 my platoon commander told me to buy a copy of the "Anarchist Cookbook" because it had useful info on explosives. He was a former Combat Engineer Officer so he knew what he was talking about. Three teams per platoon, three platoons and a headquarters per company. Four companies per battalion. Four Recon battalions in the Corps. Whole lot of copies of the "Anarchist Cookbook." And that doesn't count the Combat Engineer battalions. Or the Army. Or other services. That kind of info is actually pretty common. Anyway, back in 1978 I went down to the local Pickwick Books and ordered one. When it came, the sales clerk said she couldn't understand why people read that stuff, but that the store sold copies every week. My copy's still around the house somewhere. The US had a rash of radical bombings in the late 1960s. There was also a rash of bomb lab explosions. It's pretty easy to make something that will go bang. It's very hard to make it so it will only go bang when you want it to. And it's very hard to keep it stable. That's why all those communist radicals kept blowing themselves up in the 1960s and 70s. We're not having an epidemic of explosions. It's not for lack of information.

How's Biden doing?
timon_phocas comments on Jan 27, 2021:
So far Biden seems like an equal opportunity shafter. He promised a path to citizenship to illegal immigrants. What he delivered just shortened the current process from 11 to 8 years. He promised he would stop fracking and then promised he wouldn't. What he delivered was a freeze on new fracking licences on federal land. It doesn't stop fracking, exactly, and it frustrates both sides. He said he would recognize Palestine. What he delivered was saying the US ambassador to Israel would cover Israel, the West Bank and the Gaza strip. This formulation frustrates Israel, Fatah and Hamas all at once. I'll give it this, it's efficient (if frustration is your goal). So I'm not impressed, but perplexed.

AUDIO: On Hugh Hewitt, former commander of Ranger Regiment slams Salon for attacks on Sen. Tom Cotton. “I don’t know Senator Cotton. I mean, I’ve looked at a lot of his statements. And to your point, to my knowledge, he’s never claimed to have been in the Ranger Regiment, or one of the Ranger battalions. He’s always clearly stated he was in the 101st and the Old Guard. And he was a graduate of the Ranger school. So I think, and this is not the first time it’s come up.” You can be a graduate of the Ranger School and not be a member of the Ranger Regiment. In fact, lots and lots of people are. Plus: ” I think, you know, if you really want to understand this, there’s one Ranger Hall of Fame, and that Ranger Hall of Fame is comprised of two different groups of people – people that served in the Ranger Regiment and the battalions, and people that are Ranger qualified. So clearly, the Rangers who created the Ranger Hall of Fame believe they’re both inside that umbrella.”

Howdy @jaymaron, Fine summary. Democrats got us into the Vietnam War. Nixon extricated us from that unholy, stinking mess. All while being relentlessly pilloried. Nixon's arms airlift to Israel was awesome. He realized there would be howls of outrage for a single planeload of ammo, so he decided to go big and make it an object lesson in American power. Nixon's 72 win over Mcgovern is also instructive. Traditional Democrat voter groups stayed home or voted for Nixon, something that happened in 2020 and then was mysteriously reversed in the dead of the night.

And they took Dagon, and set him in his place again. 4And when they arose early on the morrow morning, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of the LORD; and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands were cut off upon the threshold; only the stump of Dagon was left to him. 5Therefore neither the priests of Dagon, nor any that come into Dagon's house, tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod unto this day. 6¶But the hand of the LORD was heavy upon them of Ashdod, and he destroyed them, and smote them with emerods, even Ashdod and the coasts thereof. 7And when the men of Ashdod saw that it was so, they said, The ark of the God of Israel shall not abide with us: for his hand is sore upon us, and upon Dagon our god 8They sent therefore and gathered all the lords of the Philistines unto them, and said, What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel? And they answered, Let the ark of the God of Israel be carried about unto Gath. And they carried the ark of the God of Israel about thither. 9And it was so, that, after they had carried it about, the hand of the LORD was against the city with a very great destruction: and he smote the men of the city, both small and great, and they had emerods in their secret parts.

Josef Mengele received a PhD in anthropology from the University of Munich and a cum laude medical doctorate from the University of Frankfurt. His published research was within the mainstream of academic thought at the time. His degrees were not revoked until the 1960s. Just saying this to illustrate that university research can produce utter, hateful nonsense. And have it rapturously received.
Well friends, I might be absent from here for a day or so, had to go to the hospital.

I remember reading autobiographies of Gulag inmates across the Communist block. Thieves and violent criminals were the trustees. People arrested for thought crimes were the underclass. We're halfway there.

Do you have a "line in the sand" regarding political or social change?
timon_phocas comments on Dec 16, 2020:
I believe we are the victims of massive coordinated fraud. The news media, ostensibly the guardians of a free society, have rapturously endorsed the fraud. Entertainment, sports, education, and corporations have all enthusiastically claimed their part of the collectivist message. We are segueing into soft totalitarianism. The hard edges are emerging, however. There are demands that Trump supporters be punished for our thought crimes. BLM and Antifa, the Red Guards of this Cultural Revolution, are more explicit in word and deed. They all demand that every voice but their own be silenced. Not every institution has surrendered, nor is every voice silenced. I will invest time and resources in these institutions and people Every totalitarian movement hates religious faiths. They are independent moral authorities and totalitarians can't stand that. My faith has withstood many persecutions. As the saying goes, the Church is an anvil that has worn out many hammers. And as my Savior said, the gates of hell shall not withstand it. Otherwise, I will try to be like Benjamin the Donkey in Orwell's **Animal Farm**. I will conform to the minimum necessary to get by and hope for better days.

So ... How Much Do You Want to BET that the NEW Vaccine WON’T Work on This One?

The Corona virus causes the common cold. We don't make vaccines for the common cold because the Corona virus mutates too quickly.
A weird conversation with my wife.
timon_phocas comments on Dec 14, 2020:
Howdy @govols, Christianity isn't meant to be a solitary pursuit. I think your wife needs to to be encouraged by other Christians. If church isn't possible or comfortable, try a Bible study with some like minded women.

I would like to add just a bit to this message of hope. Our English language has changed the meaning the word 'comfort' over the centuries. It has lost some meaning. 'Comfort' means to soothe, cheer up, console. Its Latin roots 'con fortis' meaning, 'here (or together with) strength'. So the Comforter does not just bring solace, but strength.

[vancouverisawesome.com] Cultural Appropriation what a load of crap ?
timon_phocas comments on Dec 13, 2020:
Western literature begins with cultural appropriation. Homer, a Greek, speaks as a Trojan for roughly half of the Iliad. Not only that, but he speaks with the voices of the gods (lese magisty indeed). It doesn't stop there. Livy speaks in the voices of Carthaginians. Shakespeare write in the voices of the French, the Scots, the Danes, and more. James Fenimore Cooper wrote in the voices of Indians the French, the English. It goes on and on. Cultural appropriation is so vast, so nebulous a concept that it is impossible to define or enforce.

timon_phocas comments on Dec 11, 2020:
The Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine is a new kind of vaccine. Old vaccines use dead virus or parts of dead virus to identify the virus to your body's immune system. Newly alerted, the body then initiates an immune response the next time it encounters an active virus. Doing this requires industrial sized labs to culture, kill, filter and prepare doses. It's difficult, painstaking, and time consuming. That's why vaccines take so long to develop. The yearly flu vaccines are epidemiologists' best estimates of what will be appearing in a year to 18 months. The Pfizer vaccine takes a different approach. It is essentially a virus to fight another virus. It 'infects' healthy cells and makes them produce parts of the COVID virus which they expell into the body. These fragments are identified by the body's immune system. So these RNA vaccines skip the whole 'industrial size labs' step and get your body to do the work instead. Vaccines have never been trouble free. Early polio vaccines (using weakened polio virus) sometimes caused polio. The vaccine rushed thru in 74-75 caused some serious, sometimes fatal, reactions. Yet mass vaccination has been a public health triumph. When was the last time you saw people dying of diptheria or mumps or polio?
I like this.

We commemorate the advent of our Savior this time of year. He didn't come into a world of Jeffersonian Democracy. Roman Emperors were military dictators pure and simple. They just had some trappings of the old Republic to maintain the pretense of continuity. God put His only begotten Son into this world. His church and Holy Spirit are in this world. He paid the price for this world and He's coming to redeem it. In the end, it doesn't matter who the president is.

Little by little it metastasized under the rubric of, 'it's always free and fair as long as liberals win'. And now we're supposed to accept it as a national mandate for Joe Biden.
