Hi. New here. I picked up on idw when gorging some of the personalities, rogan peterson Harris etc. I find it odd Harris is the only one who survived the new atheist movement.
Rambly, but i am curious what really matters to people, in thought and action. I am a bit of a social coward, but some of that is a need to be polite.
On a societal level I think merit should be rewarded. Ethics aside that's how you make a society flourish. Lose and win with grace
Personal level I just like those real conversations, minus the drugs
Great to be well met!
Greetings.
What matters to me? Well, I think both ends and means matter. It's not just about the destination, but the logical train of thought that brings us there. Ethics are great, morals are greater. Utilitarianism is an incomplete picture of the puzzle, and science followed through to its logical end justifies what the conscience calls outrageous. Proponent of natural law theory. Intrigued by totalitarian theology. Classical liberal who reads the Greats. Always welcome to discuss.
Are you familiar with game theory? I don't know much about the classics, i like adam smith, but the nature of cooperation and competition intrigues me. Example- is the military a social neccessity? If it is does that make war inevitable?
@vptran31 I am familiar with game theory. The classics are excellent -- I cannot recommend them enough. The military, in my view, is a necessity. If for nothing else, its presence staves off conflict. As long as countries exist as independent sovereigns and resources remain scarce, I would argue that war will always be inevitable.
Welcome to the community, I think you'll like it here.
Welcome I haven't come out as anti-SJWs in my very progressive social circle, partially because I want to be polite, partially because I'm afraid of being labeled. I feel I can express my true opinions here.
Hello new person . i wonder about that. The nature of tribes and discourse. I largely mark confused for most issues. I have yet to encounter sjws in my part of texas but i do know people often get defensive when their views are explored
