What is your definition of ‘exploitation’ as it relates within the relationship between worker and owner? On what distinguishable grounds can we regard a worker as being exploited?
Poll question - Do you accept the Marxian definition of exploitation?
If your answer is no;
What flaws do you see within the Marxian definition that workers are exploited in so far that the commodities they produce are then sold for more than the value it cost to produce those commodities.
Idk. I am my own boss. Self-employed and loving life. Capitalism is awesome.
The "worker" cannot by himself create the "value" that can be created by a group or team of workers. As someone who spent an entire career in for-profit business ventures, it is always a challenge to develop the right compensation structure of workers in a company. Too often, so-called "middle management" gets bloated, and takes the rewards that should go to those on the front line. Likewise, it has become increasingly more difficult within corporations to implement compensation programs that truely consider the value of the worker's contribution. The chasm between executive compensation and worker compensation has become too broad; most front-line corporate employees today are paid too little. This is not support for minimum wage, however.
The worker freely enters into an accepted contract with an employer and a universe of possiblities is presented for the opportunity to offer a valuable effort. The opportunity to work and to be of universal value to the world is the sweet nectar of this blessed life.
The worker isn't responsible for the financial risk taken like the owner, with trade deals that allow for the raw materials be delivered to a location, rent at the location. The machinery purchases, maintenance on the building, and equipment. Distribution methods to get the product to market. Often the owner has some exclusive intellectual property, i.e. specific material, machine or process. The worker isn't responsible for hiring, payroll, any expansion. Finally no one is forcibly taking your labor, you have no right to theirs, or the fruits therein
