Is the fall of Western Philosophy inevitable?? As much as I love the conversation I am seeing that no one on the right is capable or at least not talking about the overcoming of inherit greed and sin. We preach limited government yet still value needless possessions which limit the ability to bring healing through collective networking. I hope I am wrong. Maybe I simply have been in California way too long.

Yep I am. I do my own research. I don’t listen to bullshit mainstream media or news. I am informed.

I think that consumerism is a problem that is driven by several factors. First, having the most things (or the latest thing) is a way of establishing dominance in a group. Another problem is the inability to resist instant gratification - take a vacation on credit rather than waiting until you can afford it. A third problem is that spending gives the illusion of having control over your life - something that advertisers all appeal to. For example: If I buy the right clothes or get on the right diet I look/feel thinner and that will lead to happiness. I think the problem of consumerism has more to do with confusion over one's place in the world, then it is a political problem. All political sides - left and right - suffer from it. I think it's less political and more to do with the breakdown of family, identity and meaning in life. We are looking for our identity in things rather than in ourselves and our community.

I prefer Buddhism. Not commercialism. Simply bc there will never be enough when living the life of addicted commercialism but Buddhism brings instant peace whilst living on a planet run by psychopaths.

Capitalism doesn't create greed and sin, greed and sin are part of the human condition. Humans are self centered and in general only concerned with themselves or with their immediate tribe/family. People can be altruistic and generous, but that is a recent development in our history and evolution.

Capitalism is greatly flawed but it is still the best we have come up so far. Socialism is very seductive, mostly because it works great on a small scale. In a family, a neighborhood, or maybe even something the size of a small town you can operate a successful socialist program, but everyone involved from the top to the bottom must be invested in the wellbeing of everyone else involved.

Where socialism breaks down is when you try to apply it to something the size of a state. No matter how well intentioned it begins it will always devolve in to a dictatorship eventually, because it is necessary to give up individual right in favor of the whole to implement socialism. When you remove the rights of the individual in the name of the group you open a door for abuse and a dictator or small group of ruling elites will inevitably take control.

The problem is there are just to many people to expect all of them to care enough about everyone else for socialism to work. One of the main legacies of western philosophy in my mind is the recognition of the inalienable rights of the individual. I think this is the most important philosophical idea that sets the US apart from all the countries and we need to protect what freedom we have left.

Back to greed and sin, it would be prevalent in any system we use because it's prevalent in us. In every socialist country that history has shown us has collapse because of the greed and sin of the people who end up in charge.

My personal views on social programs are more radical than this, but there would not be any advantage in pursuing them here, as I wouldn't expect to get any kind agreement them.

This is where we share ideas. Continue I'm listening

I’m not greedy or sinful. That’s the lie forced down ignorant throats by preachers who say they speak for an invisible friend called god. But I’ve seen beyond all that bs and people prove over and over again that they do care deeply about each other especially in times of cataclysmic crises like flooding and tornados which is going to get even more extreme. In those times when the govt hasnt responded, PEOPLE DO!!!! Govts just want us to think we don’t care but when shit hits the fan? PEOPLE CARE and WE WILL band together when we need to to survive the NWO.

Capitalism isn't the problem. The law is too lenient against greed. Fix the laws that protect the greedy from justice.

I feel we are living in the decadence of 21th century. The arrogance is palpable form the younger generation who have achieved nothing. Everybody is standing on the shoulders of giants regardless of there missteps.

Exactly we are living off things we did nothing to create and are leaving the next generation with very little

@Conservative-Mex speak for yourselves. I’ve always lived humbly and with full conscious responsibility. I was aware back in the 80s. While everyone ignored the truths of what was coming I took it onboard and lived frugally and I can say to any young person I did not contribute to the horrors we are now beginning to face.
Society has always disgusted me, it’s gluttony and obscene waste is enough for me to say: stop the planet! I want to get off! But I have two beautiful daughters who are also mindful that I wouldn’t want to abandon. ?

Conflict is inevitable as long as there are two people in the world. Two politicians may say the same thing for very different reasons. I believe that most are motivated by self interest.

Government isn't built squash flaws in personality. That's the beauty of freedoms. We are free be flawed human beings. No laws against greed will result in less greed...simply morph that timeless of vices into some pseudo righteous virtue signaling like we have now. The more selfless you are percieved to be, the more power of personality one gains within his/her community which is a twisted greed for power in and of itself. Material greed is the least of my concerns. Perhaps we should analyze why it is we are so impressed by others who "have it all"? If there was no value to acquiring things, I doubt so many people would persue it. If that flashy car didn't get the attention of the hot girl, guys would all be rolling around in smart cars. No?

Notice that your values are in contradiction with capitalism itself. Capitalism equals to greed and needless possessions.
That means only one thing - they didn't manage to brainwashed you. Score for you 🙂
You're on hard path ...hard, but right one.
Don't worry, you'll be fine. Just keep thinking for yourself and you'll find a way

I agree with you on a moralistic level. Capitalism is generally fed through greed and taking advantage of situations or other people in order to reap some form of gains. It's unfortunate that the driving force is typically skewed in such a way that we see an inverse distribution of wealth vs. population. However, it can hardly be considered a "fair" system unless this is allowed to happen.

Alternatively, capitalism can also be looked at as simply an economical model where one owns their labor, or products of their labor, in whatever form that may take. This often manifests as a market where time or property has some agreed upon value to be traded for other things of comparable value. If your time is spent cleaning floors vs. building furniture, it's considered "more valuable" to build furniture. Applied to a broad scale you'll see it rapidly break into three main categories (management, production, labor). Depending on the category you fall into will determine the general value of you time and efforts.

@Tarzankom if we all stocked up on a months worth of food then refused to go to work and instead spent time at home with our families we could bring the elite to their knees. But sadly most of us don’t have the money to stick up for a month and that’s how the elite get away with their insatiable greed.
Now they want to cull the population bc there’s not enough of anything to sustain us. So they’ll wipe out enough (7 billion of us) so the remaining 2 billion can continue to be slaves to their greed. ? WE ARE ALL SLAVES TO THE ELITE FEW.

I’m not sure why you think advocating for limited government is inconsistent with the idea that each individual can acquire as many, or as few, “things” as they choose. Additionally, who defines what is “needless”? If we get down to only what a person NEEDS, then no one should have more than a basic shelter and clothes with just enough food/water to sustain life. No one NEEDS steak, or beer, or cars, or football, or.... you get the idea.

My issue the conversation never even begins. Well actually it is right here. I like this

To that I'd say each political ideaology has their share of pros and cons, as nothing is perfect.

Then you are part of the problem. If you’re incapable of doing some research and weeding out the white collar criminals there’s a big chance you will vote in the corrupted over and over again.

@Speyedy Likewise, I'm sure you're doing plenty of the same...

@Speyedy Unfortunately in Australia we are stuck with the Two Party Preferred System which guarantees theat either Labor or Liberal will get in. Sure they may have to make deals with other Parties or Independents but on the whole the 2 major parties always prevail.
