Trumpism or conservative ideals? The GOP has chosen the former. They've given up on persuading people with ideas and instead succumb to the allure of politics - might over right.

“A lot of these base voters are living in a post-truth nihilism where you believe in nothing and think that everything might be untrue,” said Ms. Longwell, who opposed Mr. Trump. “It’s an open question which strategy wins: Trying to do things that materially improve people’s lives or trying to attack things that make them feel aggrieved.”

I'm sure that the the neo cons were not about improving peoples lives.

So, what are they about and why?

@TyKC

Maintaining the petrodollar to facilitate global trading advantages.

Having the international trading currency has many advantages. It's why the establishment is so afraid of Trump. Trump's vision was for the U.S. to trade fairly based on productivity. The financial markets knew that bringing industry back to the U.S. was never going to compensate for the havoc that losing the advantage of having the dollar as the international trade currency brought. The only way to maintain that position was through the military. We invaded Iraq and destroyed Libya because they were both threatened the petrodollar. It's also why the establishment is so afraid of Russia and Syria. Trump they feared would not use the military to protect the petrodollar. Not only that but he threatened to lose Western European support for keeping the dollar as the international trade currency by demanding they build their own military. The deal that had been worked out with Europe was that the U.S. would have the petrodollar in exchange for defense.

China now wants their currency to be the international trade currency but the establishment is gambling that the world will never agree to it because the Chinese are extremely ethnocentric. That at least in part explains the crazy alliance between big money and wokeness. To stop China the rest of the World has to believe the U.S. and it's Western Allies are not ethnocentric.

If you voted for Trump you voted against the petrodollar. It was a big gamble that the West could compete without financial advantages. My personal take is that what happened to the Soviet Union was happening to the U.S. That it was only a matter of time until the economy collapsed under the weight of the military industrial complex. Cracks were starting to show up everywhere in the petrodollar system. A situation not unlike the conditions that lead to WWI where China plays the role of Germany.

I was never confident in Trump or the American worker. It just seemed wise to bet on your friends not your enemies. Have no doubt, China is the enemy.

@wolfhnd Not sure how a discussion of the petrodollar got into this conversation, but it's irrelevant to the quote. Longwell was talking about the bills currently before Congress, the one passed (Covid - 19) and the two pending (infrastructure and family bill). The bills are overwhelmingly popular with the American people, yet the GOP is unanimously opposed to them. That Congress fails to support the American people in this manner is a huge problem and has been for years. What you bring up is a whole different issue.

@TyKC

No it's not, the neo cons are stuck between Trump and the establishment. They also realize that the Democrats will turn the U.S. into a failed state similar to what they have done in California.
