Good morning, freedom lovers everywhere from northern Arizona, out here where almost everyone has a chicken or several. Goats are popular as well. I love living rural!

Where are you and what is your favorite thing about living where you do?

I am from SE Michigan - living in a subdivision. I am fairly certain my township has some kind of code against raising chickens and/or goats in my 0.3 acre lot. Due to the proximity of my neighbors I wouldn't do it, even if was legal. I am a little envious of your rural living and ability to think outside the traditional American box. Yet, as you stated, it's becoming more common for those with acreage to raise chickens and/or goats. Kudos to you! I respect and admire your lifestyle, but not sure I want to move at this stage of my life - comfortable in my home. I do enjoy the ease of going to the grocery store, having my potted vegetables and herbs, but do acknowledge the ideal to have some self-sufficiency, even though I am not providing food directly for myself. Enjoy your little heaven on earth and hello from MI! 🙂

Awesome! We live in the middle of nowhere and love it. We have started raising pasture raised pork and chickens. We have 35 egg layers and are adding another 25 soon. Our garden is huge as well. Love growing and raising our food by ourselves!

We're in the process of assembling our Growing Dome greenhouse from Growing Spaces in Pagosa Springs Colorado. Excited at the possibilities. I know a touch about aqua & hydroponics but have never actually done either. It's gonna be a challenge! We might raise chickens, but that'll be down the road if at all. Owing livestock means you never get to go anyplace and we love to travel.

We watch White House on the Hill on YouTube. They are livestock birders and have a lovely, growing family to watch interact with their herd of chickens, turkeys, ducks, peacocks/hens, and one emu hatched from an egg and reared in the house for a time. You ought to check out that channel. It's fascinating, I guess, unless you are already up to your gunwails in chicken life!

Living in SE Michigan on 28.5 acres. Only time you hear gunfire is when our neighbors are practicing. Totally loving our rural living. I would love to have goats, but we have no fences and lots of predators.

Where?: Southeast CO. Not the pretty part. The "edge of the dustbowl" part. The second largest county by area in the state, but least in population. Not a single traffic signal (red, yellow, green...) in the entire county. No Taco Bell, Mcdonalds, Burger King, etc. for 45 miles. My closest neighbor is 3/4 of a mile away. The next closest is probably 2 miles after that.
What is my favorite thing?: Multiple things actually. Besides some of the things mentioned above, I like that most the people here have admirable common sense to them, a strict belief in the constitution, a love for their country, and a "majority rules" attitude. I moved here from the Central Coast of California and find the people here very refreshing in the fact that they like less Government. They may pass a law in Denver, but it probably won't be enforced here, if the people don't want it. That means a lot to me, coming from a place, where 1,016 new laws were written in just last year alone.

Living in an agricultural town in south eastern Massachusetts. Love having my horses at home and tromping through hay, bedding and pasture. Recently opened my home to boarding dogs whose owners go on vacation. What a joy to see city dogs connect with nature. Some come from apartments and actually have to learn outdoor sounds and smells. There are no kennels, so they are very timid at first, but how fun to see them finally run with such freedom and joy.

Beautiful!

I'm from North Central Alabama, and I think the coolest thing about living here is that we have so much diversity because of the technology in this region. We are the home of both NASA and missile defense systems. So we get people from all over the country and it makes for an interesting community. I've been living here about 20 years and I love it.

My oldest friend lives in Mooresville AL, near Madison, I think. I met her when we both lived in Portland Oregon in 1975. Visited her last in AL in the 90s. Lovely place, but too humid for my taste.

New York. I like the city about 3 times a year. I love the beaches, fishing and vineyards out on Long Island. We surf, sail, swim, fish, make wine and sip it in front of a fire pit.

The city of Allentown PA, and that's good for me as I'm close to the historic Allentown Fairgrounds and the farmer's market that is on the grounds.
