We're excited to announce our "IDW Coin Program"

Its goal is to let members become fans (dare I say "patrons" ) of their favorite members as well as raise money for charities. Note: there is NO COST for members to participate!

Here's how it works. For every 10 activity points that you get, we give you one "coin". You can give coins to any member that makes you happy for their involvement with this community (e.g., love their post or comment? send them some coin!).

You can also "vote" with your coins to charitable causes! For every 10 coins that you donate to listed charities, we'll donate $1 - up to $10,000 per charity!

Let me know your questions or thoughts about how we can improve this program. Please skim the comments as I'll try to reply to questions there.

Sorry, I accidentally erased the community tag, but I put it back! The arrows are really small on the phone.

I am excited. Let's do it. I love the new community groups that I notice are developing. I love the layout of the site and it's ease of use. Think about adding Steven Crowder or Blaze TV for potential donations, please.

Good ideas!

@PatriciaBurger Thank you for commenting on my posts, when we comment/interact on other's posts that helps build up the community. Good to hear you like the Coin idea, so do I, and some coins are going to be sent your way (and to some others)...

I would like to know how the charities are reseached please. I know of many charities that are said to do good that are in fact more harmful then good

Our plan is to let each of the honorees decide which charity helps the IDW cause. Win-win!

@Admin, that will be great exposure as well.
Clever marketing!

So this was the idea! This is pretty neat actually. I LOVE the idea of being able to get IDW merch through increased involvement.
I did notice that Ben Shapiro wasn't on the list of charitable figures we could choose to support. Is there a reason?

Whoops, will add Ben in a few minutes. Thanks for pointing that out.

@CanuckAmok We'll let the current batch decide where to donate. Perhaps next round!

I only give coins to people in strip clubs 😮 😉

Just curious, since there are some charities already in which we could donate coins to, will the program ever expand to include setting up a cryptocurrency wallet such as what Coinbase offers? Another means of donating to said charities who might be interested in such.

Yes, we're investigating several crypto ideas. We recognize that there is great overlap between the IDW community writ large with the crypto world.

@Admin Oh that's excellent to hear. Please keep me posted on that. I read your comment below, yes, if you had a crypto program set up on here besides giving out tokens you would have the option of making available a way for members to purchase IDW tokens in exchange for a crypto like Bitcoin or Ethereum.

@Admin Oh by the way, the Sam Harris charity now has the largest donation sum (so far). 😉

Have you settled on a name for the Coins (tokens)? If not, we could do a poll on it. I like the coins idea.

For now, we're calling it the "IDW Coin (rewards) Program" but it's still a work in progress. Open to change 🙂

Where does your income come from? Just curious.

We were debating calling the program Intellectual Dark Money but that would sound too sinister. The funding for the coins comes from a donor who wants to support the movement but wants to let the members decide where it could have the best impact. Instead of choosing specific charities, we also want to let prominent figures in the movement to have a say too. It's a total chicken and an egg thing so a donor stepped in to help. We also plan to enable members to purchase coins if they want to get involved but want to wait until we have specific charities lined up. We'll have more details to share in a few weeks as we sort through them. We've only been live for 2 weeks.
