The Trumpinator vs Jim 'The Walking Disruption' Acosta.
It's pretty safe to assume we all know how the president feels about CNN's Jim Acosta. The question I have here is about that situation back when the White House pulled his access to the press room. Should Trump have caved so easily?
My opinion is that there would have been a case for prohibiting Acosta from the White House. Every time he shows up to any kind of briefing, he stops everything by either calling out unsolicited or refusing to sit down and be silent when his turn is over.
Any student who behaved this way in class would be removed and sent to an administrator to determine their punishment.
Any regular houseguest who behaved this way would eventually be asked to leave and not be invited back. Especially when the focus of his disruptions was to abuse his host.
He has a right to cover the news and to express his opinions, certainly. But as far as I'm aware, he doesn't have the right to do so from the White House press room.
I think Trump should have stuck to his guns and told CNN they could send someone else to represent them in the press briefings, but that these kind of disruptions would no longer be tolerated.
What are your thoughts on the subject?
I too wish President Trump would have kept the ban on Acosta, as that guy apparently doesn't know how to be courteous when reporting on the news.
Nobody has a "right" to be at a press briefing. It's a courtesy extended by invitation only. I'd say publish a behavioral guide and boot any and all who won't play by the rules.
Second alternative is to stop them altogether. It's not the President's job to provide the press with the raw materials necessary for their job, and given the fact that few "journalists" in that room factually report what's happening, they might as well shut it down.
