Although some of the choices may apply in regards to my decision making process, issues are the main driving force behind who I choose to vote for.

I vote with my feet and my wallet, and pay attention to politics out of morbid curiosity.

I also vote to send a message.

When I lived in a State where my vote for president would not change the outcome, I voted for a third party candidate for president. When in a swing state, I vote for one of the major parties for president.
I also decide which primary to vote in based on which party is dominant in the state.

I vote on the person best able to do the job. Last election u voted for Gary Johnson. He was clearly the best candidate. I am glad Hillary did not win and was happy that, at least Trump won over Hillary. But he does things that ads to the fuel for his detractors. Tells lies when he doesn't have to and tweets way too much. So far he's doing what he thinks is best for the country but I honestly hope Republicans find a better candidate.

I vote based on what candidate best's represents the constitution. The the 2-A is a must!

I have no idea why i vote for a particular candidate. Can I admit that? Before 2016 I broke my votes down to Dem party lines first, then for women candidates. Trust me, I'll never do that again. Sometimes vote AGAINST someone...such as I wouldn't have voted for Hillary no matter who was running against her. Glad it was Trump.

"On where the candidate stands on issues important to me"---which are 1) limiting the power of the government, 2)avoiding wasteful spending, 3)strict adherence to the Constitution. Unfortunately, Federal legislators will always be influenced or threatened or compromised by the entrenched Money Powers.

Experience (or lack thereof) and positions taken on some of the more controversial issues. Whether or not scandals were part of the equation in the past is a strong consideration as well.

I have stopped voting. The way it appears to me is it's like a game..no matter which side you pick your prize is to be kicked in the nuts. I've opted out of playing that game. I do stand behind a convention of states. Maybe something like that can bring me back to the booth. But I am cynical. If the founding was the ultimate attempt at some kind of minarchist libertarian form of government than that experiment has shown to be a disastrous failure. Nessesary evil? Is it tho? Is it really so nessesary?

You should always, always vote. It's not just a right, it's a duty. Too many people have died to give you that right.

@jehjeh3711 I can see how you would see it that way. I abstain from a bad game because folks like my grandpa fought in WWII
