Every large government goes corrupt. The more you give government to do, the more corruption happens. Government is fundamentally corrupt. The only solution is small government.

Galmand's Amnesia Effect. You know they lied about things you have experience in, but forget to distrust them on the rest of their lies.

I think most people just tell themselves that their rulers know something that they don't know. They hate to think their leaders would be so corrupt as to do the heinous things they do, surely if they were such liars, thieves, and ne'er-do-wells they could have never been selected to run for an office higher than dog-catcher. All that adds up to, "I or some of my best friends voted for the cretin, I have good common sense, and besides he doesn't look exactly like Satan." So yes, most folks do believe their lyin' eyes.
