Fact Checking Trump's Latest Fibs

AP reports fact checking on Trump's current crop of lies. [apnews.com]

RUSSIA INVESTIGATION:
TRUMP: “Again I say, a deputy, because of the fact that the attorney general didn’t have the courage to do it himself, a deputy that’s appointed appoints another man to write a report.”

THE FACTS: The attorney general at the time, Jeff Sessions didn’t lack courage in the matter; he lacked standing. He recused himself from anything to do with the Trump campaign’s interactions with Russia because his work for the campaign placed him in a potential conflict of interest. It then fell to Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein to decide whether to appoint a special counsel, and he did.

THE ECONOMY:
TRUMP: “I want to see the report. And you know who will want to see it? The tens of millions of people that love the fact that we have the greatest economy we’ve ever had.”

THE FACTS: The president is vastly exaggerating what has been a mild improvement in growth and hiring. The economy is healthy but not nearly one of the greatest in U.S. history.

The economy expanded at an annual rate of 2.9 percent last year, a solid pace. But it was just the fastest in four years. In the late 1990s, growth topped 4 percent for four straight years, a level it has not yet reached under Trump. And growth even reached 7.2 percent in 1984.

Independent economists widely expect slower growth this year as the effects of the Trump administration’s tax cuts fade, trade tensions and slower global growth hold back exports, and higher interest rates make it more expensive to borrow to buy cars and homes.

What Trump thought about Sessions' reasons for any inaction does not invalidate the quote that a AG deputy appointed another deputy to investigate what could have been investigated by Sessions had he not recused himself.

Opinions and statements regarding whether this is currently the greatest economy, or not, by gauging only one or another of the different parameters are just opinions--not fibs or lies.

We can always count on the AP to criticize anything Trump says or does--the massive wire-services being controlled by Globalist entities. Nationalism and and the Constitution, particularly the 2nd amendment, are always targets of the globalists.

Every elected official lies. Obama told us we would keep our insurance and that our healthcare costs would go down. Neither were true. Sadly in our country people from both sides of the aisle will accept liars from their side of the aisle and attack liars from the other side of the aisle. I guess it’s just human nature but it’s sad

@Daryl I admire your desire for truth. Sadly, all people lie and politicians are especially good at it. I certainly do not want a representative who is a chronic liar. One problem is determining exactly what is a lie. Your discussion of the economy is an especially difficult one because politicians on both sides skew the numbers. GDP, unemployment, number of jobs created and so many other measures can be skewed by methodology. Calling Trump a liar because you choose a different methodology is a little harsh. It’s hard to deny that he’s had a very good impact on the economy, mainly due to deregulation which was strangling the business community and economic growth but this is beside the original point. It’s clear that you don’t like him and you are on the side of him being a liar. I get it. I was never a big fan of his but I do think he’s been good for the economy and he has been much more conservative than I ever thought he would be. I support that. He does seem to stretch the truth and/or out right lie at times but none of these guys is pure. Hell, Clinton was groping and raping women and he is still beloved by many
