The Quebec Government made a pioneering strong move to push the personal transportation (or taxi) industry towards free market principles.

It used to be that Taxi Permits were controlled under a supply management system in which the government "freely" issued a limited number of permits without which it was illegal to charge money in exchange for a car ride. These permits could be traded at an average of 200k CDN.

With the new law in place, it is now possible to sell car rides with a mere standard driver's license and a criminal background check.

This is the government's answer to a longstanding feud between Taxis and Ride-Sharing apps like Uber.
In essence, this is a total give in to Uber and a death-blow to Taxis.

Personally, I feel that it is the right choice. Makes me want to vote for Legault.

Do you want to see this kind of legislation passed in your legislature? Why, or why not?

P.S. Photo is to show how divided the media is on this issue.

I support free market all the way. The taxi system (200k for a license!? c'mon!) was a corrupt business and the government was always very aware of this. I've had much better experience using Uber than using taxis. I would welcome competitors to Uber.

I still use only taxis

Cons against Über and like

No real insurance requirements. You may not be covered well and that's at the whim of the driver

And driving record. Über driver's aren't screened for their driving record

I support those who support free markets.
