Don't think state. Think counties. Rural counties should secede and make a league of rural counties.
Form alliances with foreign nations.
Get to the ocean through Canada. Have rural Canadian counties secede from Canada and join the league of rural counties.

It's a reasonable opening proposal. I would be inclined to include Dallas to Huston, as well as the UP of Michigan, and the Deep South across to include South Carolina. That would leave the West with access to the Gulf and include several ports into the Heartland. I'm also inclined to include westward into Oregon and Washington to maybe far enough South to pick up Salt Lake City and maybe include Grand Junction but leave out Aspen so the left coast liberals still have their favorite ski resort.

They can go ski in New Mexico.
My suggestion of the Mississippi River drainage is to be free from reliance on the surrounding areas. Control of water supply is crucial. The minute you cross the Great Divide or the Appalachians you become reliant on people that do not have your best interests at heart. We need a new nation not a county or a state.

Unfortunately, I get such foolish and ill-considered responses such as, "Will you pay for my move?" This is a serious idea I had during the wee hours this morning along with many well-reasoned reasons for such a move, such as geography and distribution channels, and it gets pooh-poohed because of peoples inability to leave their thinking comfort zone . . . sad.
Our forebears, Christian forebears left England and Europe to establish a Christian commonwealth, it seems such a shame that today's Christians cannot envision such a thing.
Another thought crossed my fevered brow, LOL. We would be surrounded; they would be divided; we would have the breadbasket.
@lawrenceblair We're already surrounded and they're already divided as it stands. Your proposal would only make the physical reality reflect what is happening anyway.
