I am new here, so I not in the flow of posting and comment and the flavor of this site (seems like everything).

I think a lot about thinking (how it works), consciousness, and language, so this has been on mind during the last several weeks:

        **Can you pray without language?**

Is Meditation (quiet your mind and just be) the same as prayer? Prayer seems to be verbal supplication to God or other deity. (I was raised a Presbyterian).

If this is true, doesn’t it mean that language came before religion? And if that is case, doesn’t it imply that theology (monotheism, Judaism, Islam) came about after the development and language and was part of Homo sapiens desire to understand his/her world? Shamans and tribal leaders where concerned about the afterlife 10,000 years before Abraham.

Don’t get me wrong, I think religion and faith are (or, at least, can be) good for people giving them hopes and goals and motivation to be better people. But does that mean that any given theology is correct? Do any of the theologies discuss their origins in terms of the actual development of Homo sapiens?

Just thinking out loud and wondering about our world.
