Religious atheist or agnostic?

Let me start by clarifying that there are many definitions of religion. For the purposes of this argument I'll be using the fourth definition of Webster's.

4 : a cause, principle, or system of beliefs held to with ardor and faith

Can one truly be an atheist and not be religious about the origin of life theory (primordial soup theory)? There is no evidence of this theory. It can not be recreated in a lab despite pain staking attempts. Fact is, it is purely theoretical science based on the observation that all life is connected through DNA. Let's assume evolution is true, again just a theory based on observation; no where does it account for a mechanism that produces the language of DNA. By that I mean information with a purpose, not just random information. There is only one mechanism that we know of that can produce this type of information -- a mind.

This brings us to the crux of the argument. As a theoretical scientist, one would have to ask oneself, "is it possible, even remotely, that a mind created this usable information we find in DNA?" If the answer is no, then I say you are a religious atheist in that you believe in origin of life theory absolutely without evidence. If the answer is yes, then I would say you are agnostic.

In this video

Sylvester James Gates states:

"It is always the case that it is our experimental colleagues that prevent us from forming a religion, because it is always grounded in what they can measure."

Of course we can get into the odds of this or that, but without experimental proof one way or the other they are both theory.

Theory of intelligent design.
