Is there such a thing as a contemporary art artist not from the far left?

Yes, indeed. I'm the living proof of that. But I feel so lonely! Sometimes it feels like the visual arts are getting further left every day. Unbearable. Am I the only one who believes in the power and the necessity of contemporary art but rejects the far-left narrative?

I am a Libertarian and an artist! I suspect there are more Libertarian or Conservative artists than let on. Selling art can be difficult and not many artists want to risk offending a gallery or a customer. I am not sure if my political views have decreased sales. I don't bring up politics when talking to gallery owners.

Well me netheir. It's the gallerists and other artists who will take political stance. Lots of them are into "art engagé". The trend goes toward that here. Very annoying. It feels like it is no place for me anymore.

@benoitdavid What is "art engage" ? Do you mean the political statement stuff that some people call "art"?

That sounds pretty much like it. It's like talking about women condition explicitely in your creation. I like that you seem to question the idea that it can be art. Here, everyone is doing just the opposite, suggesting that every other kind of art must justify it existence.

@benoitdavid Everybody has their own taste in art. I think most of the "statement" art is tiresome and unattractive. There are a few exceptions. "Guernica" comes to mind! (hope I spelled that correctly) Just make skillful art that satisfies YOU! I am sure there will be others that like it as well. Post a picture. I'd like to see what you make.

I concur- although I’m not a contemporary/ abstract artist, I admire some of it. I’m not a ‘far leftist’ either, and I admire old art movements moreso!

I think the "Leftist" statement art is just a product of the contentious times we live in. Some of it is well done but most of it is pretty tiresome. I suspect a majority of people like art the makes them feel good or is aesthetically pleasing and interesting. Most of the current "statement" art will be forgotten rather quickly. Certainly most of us won't put any of it in our living rooms.

@Farmergramma Hopefully you're right. But meanwhile, what do I do with my work? I wait for the left to let go and leave? The world of visual arts has been dominated by the farleft since I have known it, that means since 1985 when I started studying it. It has only gone farther left since. Even a friend artist who defines herself as a feminist found it was just too much farleft when she went back to get her master. When a feminist tells you it is too far left, it must be damn too far! (They were learning to be politically correct with stones and plants, so she said.)

@benoitdavid Look for galleries that would show your type of work. Interior designers are a good resource if you make flat work or sculpture. You can search galleries and designers. If there are local art fairs that sometimes works. At least you would get some feedback. (you would have to ask) PC with stones and plants? Heaven help us.
