Out here in CaCaLand practically everything is "re-invented" to : improve safety, protect the environment, protect children, yada yada crappola. It's like plastic bags were vilified as single-use : why would anyone except a liberal be stupid enough to use a bag only to bring stuff home from the store? It was done to put out of work the in-state company that made the bags and hand over the jobs of non-plastic bags to the CCP run factories in China that local politicos had already invested in.
Things are "re-done" to result in a process that enriches the entitled. The RealID is another scam, like Solyndra.
Same thing was done with gas cans. In-state connected relative of politico was already set up to manufacture (import, really) the only type of gas can now approved for use by the State.
