Seemingly not having enough distractions to deter me from writing, yesterday I started a new course module in Duolingo. I'd been thinking of learning Welsh ever since I discovered it was available, since one of my motivations for learning German was to "connect" with my ancestors, and another big branch of them were Welsh. After all, if I'm going to meet many of them in heaven one day, wouldn't it be nice to be able to say, "Good afternoon, how are you?" If I can succeed in learning as much Welsh as I have German in the past few years, I will have achieved advanced illiteracy in multiple languages; but hopefully, along the way, I will have also revved some brain cells that were merely idling. I first heard this Welsh hymn perhaps ten years ago, before I discovered Duolingo, and I find the lyrics (English translation) inspiring and overwhelming, the melody hauntingly beautiful. I invite you to listen with me and marvel at the intricacies & complexities of God's hand in hand creations of language & music. "Here Is Love Vast As the Ocean" (Welsh & English subtitles.) —
