It took hundreds of years to build the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. This 900-year-old majestic Medieval building is currently burning down. I could weep over this. How could an entire cathedral be completely engulfed in flames during renovations?

I really hope it's an accident because if someone did this on purpose, I will NEVER forgive it. Even the Nazis who occupied France didn't touch this cathedral. What a loss to human civilization, to Western heritage! To me, it's a symbol of what's happening to the West. I am so so so sorry for Western civilization.

If in 2019, we can't preserve this emblem of human civilization, then our civilization is dead.

And there are people laughing at the burning on twitter. THE LEFT HAVE BECOME EVIL LUNATICS!

It's disgusting. Absolutely heartless and cruel.

Well, one amazing piece of architecture and history off my Bucket List, the No. 1 thing I wanted to visit in France. Now I really have to see Chartres cathedral before something happens to it...and if it does, or any other cathedral, France better wake up and realize it's not a coincidence.

Until there is more evidence as to the cause of the fire I'm willing to suspend judgment and say: the Church is us Christians, not a building, and to destroy the Church someone would have to destroy the Holy Spirit.

The true loss of Western Civilization is the abandoning of the Christianity which inspired the majesty of the cathedral.

I invite you to look at the heart of the art; go beyond the emotion of the moment and take a long look
at the Rose Window contemplating its reason for being.

You mentioned your devotion to unforgiveness.
I invite you to look at the heart of the faith which inspired your beloved art; go beyond the emotion of the moment and take a long look at the beauty of life. Life, which calls out to strive towards the beauty of ethics far away from bitterness against our fellow image-bearers of God.

As it is, haven't you lost your way in your meditation on the art?
Isn't its value beyond it's mere existence and to be found in its remarkable essence?
And doesn't that essence call out for you to exhibit beauty in your own life
not be chained with torture as you persist in your bitterness?

"Truly I tell you, you will not get out until you have paid the last penny."
-Matthew 5:26

I'm a secular person. My appreciation for the Cathedral has nothing to do with its "remarkable essence" of Christian ideology. It has to do with the hundreds of years of heritage, architecture, art, and culture lost. I'd feel the same way if the 5000-year old pyramids were destroyed.

Paris without visiting Notre Dame is like visiting India without going to the Taj Mahal, or Egypt without going to the pyramids, or Jerusalem without visiting the Holy Sepulchre and the Dome of the Rock and the Western Wall.

@CRBG Why does hertitage, architecture, art or culture matter to you at all?

@Ian_Newton Because we are supposed to be the stewards, the caretakers of what our ancestors did and learned.

These monuments are emblems of civilization...they're NOT just "buildings".

Every one of those "buildings" (whether it's the Notre Dame Cathedral or the pyramids or the Taj Mahal) were built by the team efforts of hundreds of people over hundreds of years, and it took lots of resources to build. That's a sign of civilization. And we are the caretakers. That's what differentiates humans from animals. And if we, in 2019, can't preserve these emblematic monuments to human ingenuity, then our own civilization is dead.

It was the scaffolding for renovation that allowed the muslim perps access to the roof and spires

Are you speculating or do you have any evidence/links to support it? I'd be flipping mad if this were true. I'm trying hard to suspend my judgement until I hear more evidence.

How many minutes would you speculate it will take before Macron uses this as an excuse to crackdown on the Yellow Vests? I'm going for an hour-and-a-half... any other guesses?

@Guido_Provolone i was waiting for someone to mention that. Was the first thing to pop into my mind as well.

Christendom is now the evil in the world, the latest item in the Progressive chopping block. The Left is working with everything Islam. It is no coincidence this is happening now. How easy to hire someone to be careless with something flammable. l have no love or respect for false prophets, however l understand the shock of such an old edifice being destroyed.

It's not the latest item though. It's been under a systematic assault at least since 1965.
