Can we please have a discussion about the Electoral College?
The Communist Left is trying to abolish it. Fourteen states have passed Bill's to adopt it if they get the 270 electoral votes the need. They now have 170.
This cannot happen! It is unconstitutional. My fear is as ever more foreigners, legal and illegal come here, they will eventually get the numbers. If Democrats regain control, there will only be one party after that. Never again will any other party get in. We will be finished.
My question is..... can this possibly happen?

Just to bring it back to the numbers, the left loves to harp on the fact that Hillary won the popular vote by 3,000,000. But she won California by 4,000,000 votes, which means the tally in the rest of the country puts Trump ahead by 1,000,000. Unless you want California to choose our president for the rest of time, you will see the genius of the structure created by all those “dead, white, land holders,” so many tears ago.

I just want to make something clear that a lot of you don't seem to understand. This is not about abolishing the electoral college. This is about a group of states that have passed regulation that will give their electoral votes to the candidate that has the popular vote. They will only do this once there are enough electoral votes to win, 270. Right now they are at 170. This is way to get around the electoral college without abolishing it.

It takes a 3/4 senate majority and 3/4 of states to ratify. Not gonna happen anytime soon. Its all talk to rally their base because their base is ignorant about the constitution and economics and.... about everything

The issue are states that have decided to go with the popular vote as opposed for the way the citizens voted in. If the Dems ever realized enough power I could see them trying to push for a popular name.

I don't think you understand. 14 states have agreed to give their electoral votes to the candidate that has the popular vote once enough states agree, as in 270 electoral votes. This is not abolishing the electoral college, this is an end around it.

From what I can tell this is about the most unproductive move they could make and could in all reality completely backfire when applied.

Tim can explain this much better than I. Please watch.

At this point the net effect of their talk about abolishing the Electoral College and Packing the Supreme Court is to guarantee a strong Republican turnout in the next election.
I hope that is the only effect.

I hope that at every town hall meeting where they utter this inane tripe someone asks them this question, "So obviously you think that you're wiser than the Framers of the Constitution. Why should we believe that?"

@An_Ominous That is exactly what I am hoping for.

My fear is that as a nation we will start electing more and more like a pendulum going back and forth from one extreme to another.

The extreme left is taking over the left and will only make more people vote to the right as the extreme right has been almost eradicated but eventually it will swing the other way. I do not really like either.

@BrunosDad Yep. Unfortunately the pendulum careens... and it doesn't go from one extreme to moderation.
One extreme condition creates its mirror. When you constantly tell one group that another group hates them... well they're likely to preemptively hate that group as well. All it does is create more hate. It's kind of the nature of identity politics and collectivism... that everyone is treated as a group not individuals. And if one side can find an individual on the other side that is really "deplorable"... they try to paint the entire opposing group with that brush.

It's like Star Search... but what they're looking for is the next political loon to use as a tool against their political opponents. They tried to audition the Covington kids... but there's a bit too much video footage that conflicts their narrative. So... next.

The only thing that I would change about the Electoral College is that now the electors are not obligated to vote the way their state does.

I remember that after Trump won the election there was some speculation by the Left as to whether they could get some Electors to change their votes. There was also some pressure applied... and one elector said that he was getting threats... in an attempt to change his vote.

Now some states are claiming that their Electors will cast their votes not with their state but with the Popular Vote. Those people have just violated their very purpose and perhaps the oath they swore when they were made electors.

In my opinion... the Electoral Votes should be cast automatically... when a state's vote is tallied and certified, the Electoral Votes should be cast automatically without the need for people (possibly corruptible people) to serve as electors.

Good point. l remember that happening. It freaked me out. That situation with turncoat Republicans could be very bad. I am also concerned people are hiding in the opposing party only top vote Democrat when needed. We are living in insane, dangerous, treacherous times.

A Mrs. Powel of Philadelphia asked Benjamin Franklin, "Well, Doctor, what have we got, a republic or a monarchy?" With no hesitation whatsoever, Franklin responded, "A republic, if you can keep it."

The Founding Fathers supported the view that (in the words of the Declaration of Independence) "Men ... are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights." They recognized that such rights should not be violated by an unrestrained majority any more than they should be violated by an unrestrained king or monarch.

Edmund Randolph
"to provide a cure for the evils under which the United States labored; that in tracing these evils to their origin every man had found it in the turbulence and trials of democracy...."

John Adams
"Democracy never lasts long," he noted. "It soon wastes, exhausts and murders itself." He insisted, "There was never a democracy that 'did not commit suicide.'"

Alexander Hamilton
"It has been observed that a pure democracy if it were practicable would be the most perfect government. Experience has proved that no position is more false than this. The ancient democracies in which the people themselves deliberated never possessed one good feature of government. Their very character was tyranny; their figure deformity."

James Madison
"... democracies have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention; have ever been found incompatible with personal security, or the rights of property; and have in general been as short in their lives as they are violent in their deaths."

George Washington
he would dedicate himself to "the preservation ... of the republican model of government."

Fisher Ames
"intended our government should be a republic, which differs more widely from a democracy than a democracy from a despotism."

I'm not sure this thing will withstand an eventual challenge on Constitutional grounds.

Article 1, section 10 (in part): No State shall enter into any Treaty, Alliance, or Confederation;

We are not promised our republic forever, but I think the target right now is the garbage press that we have in this country. If we can get that to shift towards the middle, we will be an immensely better place.
