Both of these movements intermingle religion with politics, which is antithetical to Western values of separation of church and state. Religion corrupts politics, and politics corrupts religion.

I agree. It's power that corrupts and corruptible people are like to use religion as a tool to gain power. That has happened often in the past. Now I think we're seeing the inverse... indoctrinating people so strongly that political beliefs have become a de facto religion... instilling religious zeal and fervor into a political movement.
The new religion doesn't have a God per se... but it has a Devil.
Kinda scary.

@An_Ominous True. It's a cult in disguise...with its own blasphemy laws, saints, intellectual "priests", group identity, etc. However, it's still not the same as a religious belief. For one thing, you can't (or shouldn't) invoke "God's will" when you're arguing for or against higher taxes.

@CRBG Actually they kind of do that. They try to use Christianity against Republicans (while previously not giving a damn about it... so to speak.)
They say a Wall is not in sync with Christian beliefs and that the bible says to take care of the poor... hence higher taxes.
I'm Agnostic... but I do believe that the Left has decided to persecute one religion while ignoring the fact that another is completely opposed to their agenda.
Mostly... I hate bullies. I didn't like it when the moral majority condemned people for listening to the wrong kind of music. And I really don't like it now when the Left targets Christians.

@CRBG The worst thing about "the cult in disguise" as you put it... is that their tenets are malleable. Without anything carved in stone or even scribed in holy writ... they can change things to fit their agenda.
Look at Russia... in the beginning Hilary gave them a reset button. Obama laughed at Romney for considering them a global threat. He told Putin he would be more flexible after his last election. Bernie praised them for their socialism.
And now they are... or rather association with Russians is tantamount to being in league with Satan.

The blue state cult is so dangerous because the message can change nigh unto instantaneously... the Word issues from a thousand mouths.
We've all seen Pelosi change the message... in 24 hours the media entirely ceased their discussion of yesterdays evils and spoke of nothing but healthcare and Republican deficiencies in that area.

Their Prophet's Gospel Is Written On The Wind.

(Sounds like a good name for a short story.)

Well... one example of a Political Movement Disguised as a Religion was Rev. Jeremiah's Church of Black Liberation Theology. He once traveled with Farrakhan to Libya to solicit funds from Libya's Khadafi.
When asked about it... since Christianity and Islam are kinda antithetical Wright said, "why should I deny help to my black brothers." Uh... because they don't believe in Christ they way you do... and might in fact consider you an infidel. But in fact, they don't consider themselves antithetical because they're really just similar political movements.

Now.. what I think is happening now with the climate changeling stuff is a Religion Disguised as a Political Movement. It's not well defined... in fact their god is nameless... or the name is only known to a few... and that name is Political Power.
