Anyone notice that tolerance for others is often one sided? I have a theory that it all comes down to respect. If you / we are respectful, we are open and tolerant to others. But the ones that preach tolerance, are anything but.

Thanks for expressing this level of openness and tolerance, which I associate with Western values. That's what makes the West far more humane than the rest of the world. As long as you believe in freedom of speech, presumption of innocence, freedom of affiliation, then we can have healthy debates, no matter which side you take.
