A simple explanation. Yes, I believe the political center has moved to the left and some liberals find themselves included in the count of conservatives.

I, myself would say I was a classical liberal. I would always vote conservative though because a liberal government is all about a liberal government and not about a liberal society. It will not "conserve" itself but will liberally grow, centralize its authority, widen its mandate, bloat the bureaucracy - all in the name of compassion, presenting itself as the caring, sharing party that has no compunction or regard for taxpayers money in order to buy themselves votes, status and privilege.

I also have a problem with the use of the contemporary left/right political spectrum. It tells us nothing of how big a government is or its plans to engineer society. Democrats are now big government socialists. Republicans share in the creation of the deep state and the centralization of power. They are perhaps slightly less big government than the Democrats. The political spectrum should go from anarchy to totalitarianism. Then the policies of self-aggrandizing big government could be better plotted. There are those who advocate for no government as there are those who advocate for totalitarianism. Govermentally, we should have a small conservative government, closer to the anarchy side than the totalitarian side, The structure should be outlined in the founding principles and Constitution of the nation, if it is a republic. From this we would see that communism, socialism, fascism, Nazism or any kind of centralized government running a nation would be closer to the totalitarian side and very similar to each other. It is the leaders of the more totalitarian regimes that will strive the hardest for control and are the most inclined to enter into wars in order to maintain power. Free market capitalist republics will only go to war to defend itself. There is no power struggle between governments. A power struggle that may or may not be supported by the general populace but serve as the cannon fodder for these governments.
