Personally, I find it bizarre that someone would use how oppressed they are as substitute for a logical argument. I''m a white guy and yes, historically white guys have done some things that I wish didn't happen but, that's not all they did. Take a moment to be grateful, you have light, air conditioning, microwave ovens, computers, TV, etc. all of that was developed by white guys. The philosophy that led to the freedom we all enjoy throughout most of the west came from white guys. That philosophy provided a voice to everyone including those that aren't white guys. I firmly believe that other groups are capable of those achievements.

It was conditions in Europe (climate, overcrowding, war, etc.) that made the basic technology that led to these developments more necessary than in other places. White guys actually paid a heavy price for their achievements but, it was the environment and other white guys that extracted that price. That's the real problem with this whole dividing people into groups. It ignores the fact that within the groups, you don't necessarily have a great deal of commonality.

For instance, it's fair to point out that it was mostly white guys that enslaved blacks in the west. However, it's not fair to ignore the fact that an awful lot, probably most, of white guys were against slavery and it was mostly white guys that fought and died to free the black slaves.

Why is it that white guys and only white guys get defined by their worst and other groups get defined by their best?

I'm a white guy and I don't hate myself. It's okay to be white. And of course, its okay to be anything else. My only criteria for living is to try and treat other people as decently as I can and hope they do the same for me in return. So far it's worked out pretty well.
